PNC donated $55k to NC artists relief fund. That includes musicians and visual art people.

As expected Wake has cancelled all high school graduations.

Baseball looking at 80 games starting in July. Some want 100 games but they would need to skip off days and have doubleheaders for 100.

The UK government has published a 50 page guide on how the countries will reopen. As part of the plan, professional sports will not be allowed, even behind closed doors, until June 1 at the earliest.

The Premiere League, predictably, is spinning this as a June 1 re-opening date for their schedule. Of course, they will have to play out the balance of the season's scheduled games to ensure that they don't have to forego a portion of their massive TV rights fees. They also announced the extension of contracts past the traditional May 31 expiration date, which took a ton of guys with expiring contracts out of limbo ... temporarily.

Here's hoping Villa can find a few points and skate out of the drop zone.

The Paris Metro reopened today after being shut down nearly two months. Rush hour riders will need specific documentation showing their home and work addresses, and should be traveling only to and from stations close to those addresses. The city is planning on reserving streets on metro routes for bicycle use only. Le Figaro (French newspaper) had an article today on how to recondition that bike that you've had stored in a closet the last two years. Their first comment: "Your tires are probably flat."

They may also have issues if UEFA resolves the Champions and Europa League schedules. Under the current guidelines, anyone travelling into the UK is subject to a mandatory 14 day quarantine, unless granted an exception. There are 4 Premier League teams still alive; Chelsea, Man City, Man U and Wolves. Neither competition completed the round of 16, so they still have a long way to go.

The contract situation is similar to what the NHL faces, but the EPL addressed it, the NHL hasn’t yet.

Belk is open from 12-6 now. At Crabtree you have to enter from the mall entrance. I assume they will do the same for their other NC stores.

I've seen some speculation that clubs might be forced to choose which competition to favor and select split sides ... one to operate on the continent and one in the UK. Easy choice for Wolves since they sit 6th in the domestic league and could really benefit from other sides deciding to lean roster strength towards Europe. Similarly Chelsea don't have much to gain in Europe and will want to secure their place for next season ... currently sitting 4th. Much more difficult call for the Manchester clubs. City aren't winning anything at home but they're only 2 or 3 wins out of danger if they slip. United at in no man's land in 5th and need everything they can get.

Of course, that's all NHL level speculation right now.

You know what isn't speculation? Scottish football is eating itself right now as the association clubs can't agree on how to proceed. There are threats of lawsuits and all sorts of argy bargy going on with Rangers playing the role of the heavy while the smaller clubs are accusing them of intimidation and other dirty politics ... so, just a regular spring in Scotland, really.

Whoever the English clubs play in the UEFA competition will have to self-quarantine too, unless they get an exemption. The UEFA competitions are a shambles, even before their May 25 decision date from the associations. I think only the French and Dutch Leagues have officially cancelled so far. There are no Dutch clubs left in either competition but in the Champions League, PSG advanced to the quarters and Lyon have a 1-0 lead on Juve on aggregate. Rangers are still alive in the Europa League, with clubs from England, Spain, Germany, Italy, Ukraine, Austria, Denmark, Greece and Switzerland. In the Champions League, only clubs from England, Italy, Germany and Spain remain, besides the 2 French clubs.

Seems like it would just be simpler to drop all soccer tournaments that have teams from >1 country since some countries are done for this season.

Players want more games? Less games? What is their objection?
The proposed 50/50 revenue split, which they don’t like because (a) it sounds like a first step towards a salary cap (as baseball is the only major sports without one) and (b) it goes against the agreement they reached with the owners in March that they would be paid prorated amounts of their contracts based on the number of games played. On the latter, they think they would be better off under that deal than on the 50/50 proposal.

If they have no fans it would probably be better for some owners to cancel this season. The small market owners don't get the big TV money like Yankees, Dodgers, Mets, Red Sox, etc. 50% of something is better than 0.

Individual owners won’t get to make that decision. If the owners vote to proceed, they’re all in. It would be up to the PA.
