Exhibition GDT - Toronto vs Buffalo Part I and II

I wouldn't call his skating a weakness. He just has averageish speed. He's pretty agile, just not fast. As for positioning being a weakness, I'm not sure what you're seeing. He's a pretty clever defender out there with his positioning. He gets knocked off the puck easily, that's a fair complaint, but the rest is a reach imo.

ME, watch him when it's not a normal situation where the play slowly starts(maybe the other team is just entering the zone) and everyone is in their position. Watch when the other team puts some actual pressure during the cycle(last year several games where he was our worst defender). He gets confused and then because he lacks mobility he'll just go to a random guy and entire cycle gets us to give up good chances. Same thing happened with Marlies as well. He does well when there isn't much pressure but to me to judge properly you always do it when pressure situation comes and how the player responds..He fails way too often. Maybe it gets better with more playing time but damn that's going to be brutal to watch because there are some physical limitations too.

Pretty strong lineup 101. I'd still have Corrado instead of Carrick, the rest is pretty much set.

Can't wait to see Matthews finally. Babcock should play the 3 young guns together just for fun to see what they can do.

Paul Hendrick
"Gardiner/Carrick duo likely to sit."

Obviously doesn't mean anything as they're still testing things. Strong offensive lineup either way.

The Leafs second practice today is basically their NHL lineup...including Carrick.

JVR-Kadri-Komarov
Michalek-Bozak-Marner
Marin-Matthews-Nylander
Hyman-Laich-Brown
(Gauthier-Moore)

Reilly-Zaitsev
Gardiner-Hunwick
Marincin-Carrick
(Valiev-Polak)

did you put these lines together yourself?

kadri is also not on the PP and getting top PK minutes. Might be a sign of what's to come for him. Hopefully he's buying into the shutdown centre roll.

PP1

Marner - VanRyk
Nylander - Matthews
----- Rielly ------

PP2

Bozak - Komarov
Leivo - Kadri
----- Gardiner ----

mark Masters

Leafs PP units

Bozak-Marner-JVR-Komarov
Rielly

Matthews-Nylander-Brown-Michalek
Zaitsev

kadri is definitely in the top 8. But if he's playing the most ES and PK minutes who knows if Babs will play him 20+ mins a game. Either way in the long run with Matthews and Nylander/Marner are going to cut into Naz's offensive opportunities.
