Four Nations, Canada takes on the world

For a useless tournament, you sure do seem to care a lot about it.
I care that Canada is embarrassed. Nothing will drive people away from stupid events like these until it becomes assumed beforehand that Team Canada will beclown themselves.

Want to know why you never heard a peep about Olympic hockey back in the 70s and 80's? Because we knew in advance that the Russians would annihilate us and everyone else. Our gold medal drought was going on half a century but nobody gave a shit because it was "just" the Olympics. But then they let the pros in and all of a sudden it's the most important tournament ever? Bullshit.

Any tournament that we cant dominate the fans will lose interest in. Same reason why American sports fans only care about sports that almost no other countries even play and ignore the others.

We need to get back to the days when the NHL playoffs were the only thing that mattered. Let the amateurs play in meaningless international tournaments.

So yes, a decisive US victory on Thursday will help in curing us of this unhealthy attachment to stupid exhibition tournaments. A season ending injury to a canadian franchise's star player would also help us focus on what's important and what isn't.

while you yell at the cloud, the rest of us will enjoy the game win or lose as will the players who actually you know AGREE and WANT to play in this, the Olympics and World Cups/Championships

Jesus Christ… were you just struggling to find an argument and that’s the first thing that popped up and you wrote it out furiously without reading it?

And you just can’t 1) Not care about it because it’s irrelevant and 2) Obsessed about Canada’s performance.

You chose the second option, you care, that’s fine, just stop the bullshit.

Not a peep in the 70's and 80's ? That is BS.. The 1972 Summit series created such a buzz that there was a push to allow NHL players to play in the Olympic games. The IOC only allowed "professional" players to play in 1988. It was the NHL that didn't allow it until 1998. In the mean time after the two summit series we had the Canada Cup then the World Cup which were a direct result of the demand). After 1972 there has always been a buzz (opposite of not a peep) about Canada having it's best players to play in International events..
