Four Nations

The game has existed in the US on a popular level for over 50 years. If "growing the game" in the US requires the subtext of annexing Canada for Trump fans to pay attention, the game isn't growing.

Put another way, this isn't making non viable US markets like Phoenix, Atlanta, etc into viable markets.

A few million maga twits tuning in is unlikely to "grow the game" in any meaningful way.

I don't think Auston looks especially enthused there tbh compared to the rest of them.

Trump's a funny guy i don't expect any of them to look miserable during that call.

Remember Auston is a proud mexican.

You understand the concept of saturation, no?

The game is as saturated in the US as the US is capable of. We have failed NHL franchises in top 10 metro areas over the last ~15 years to prove it. This isn't going to change that.

all due respect but this is dumb.

Meh, three of these guys are captains for Canadian teams and a bunch play or played in Canada. The fact that not a single one of them can say "Love playing there, love the fans, don't agree with the annexation talk." As if that's a controversial statement. Fuck every single one of them. Especially Auston.

love your passion but in this situation if you expect any of them to criticize their country or president prior to this game you're nutso.

a healthy 'no comment' speaks volumes imo.

yeah...most of these guys have trouble spouting pablum like "we just have to keep getting pucks on net"

hockey players are the ultimate poster boys for "shut up and dribble"

It's really not. Overall growth of hockey in the US has been flat for a decade now. Player registration has been around 550-560K since 2015 and the biggest growth category since 2000 has been adult registrations, not kids. Roughly the same amount of kids were registered in 2000 (400K) as were registered in 2023.

Interest in the game is not growing in the US. The revenues are increasing mostly due to market forces (the overall decline in live content, and it's growing importance to advertisers/broacasters), not increased interest. Shit, regular season ratings in the US are down quite heavily over the last few years.

You are literally seeing and reading evidence of US interest in hockey awakening.
