Four Nations

you are right - good tv ratings are bad.

and you know Olympics have built in ratings that have no relevance to any specific sport in the olympics.

They're obviously not bad. They're proof that there is an appetite for international best on best hockey, but we knew that already. The NHL seems to have decided to figure this out and yes, a large enough expansion of best on best will likely grow the game in the future. But ~10 million Americans tuning in to a game isn't proof that the game is being grown down there through this tournament just because JJ Watts says so.

As for the olympics not having relevance to anything outside of the olympics...that's a pretty wild take given what the 1980 olympics did for the US program, and by wild I mean, fucking wrong.

After this I'm pro World Cup over Olympics. Not that I don't think NHLers should go to the Olympics, but international hockey with NHL reffing and NHL sized rinks >>.

I'm agnostic on who is throwing the party tbh, as long as it's expanded best on best. I prefer an expanded WC over the Olympics, but Olympic over 4 team tournaments, tournaments with made up team europe's, young guns, etc.

You are literally seeing and reading evidence of US interest in hockey awakening.
No, the only thing that's going on here is that jingoistic Americans have something to thump their chest about while chanting "USA! USA!" for a few hours. They'll have forgotten all about it by the weekend. And it won't sell one extra ticket to an NHL game south of the border.

Think MAGA will only align with the NHL long enough to suit their needs (this tourney I guess) and then they won’t go far enough into nutsoland and they’ll lose interest and they’ll move onto the next Rich Men North of Richmond/Gina Caruso/someone frothing at the mouth about whatever hateful stuff they’re on about that week

Is it really, or do you just have a short memory?

The game has not grown in the US since 27 fucking million people tuned in to watch the 2010 gold medal finals.

I know you really badly want it proven that this is awesome, the olympics are lol, etc. But c'mon man, settle down.
Exactly!

International tournaments only stoke one thing: nationalism. That doesn't translate into support for NHL teams with multinational rosters.

Came into the thread to see WTF is going on, tournament has been fun (I changed my stance on it somewhat).

Tonight's game appears to be far deeper than hockey and I wonder how that will impact player relationships after this.
