GDT #33: 24/12/20 - The Poor Dumb Ednas

If there’s one guy who’s a bit injury prone who I’m totally fine with, it’s Matty. I just miss primo elite-o 70 goal version of Matty, and hate the broken version. He was obviously still not healthy when he came back. They should just keep him out till he is. There’s no 50, 60 goal season happening this year anyway.

I'm just trying to follow the logic here ... imagine hearing an Avs fan saying maybe we'd be better off without that MacKinnon guy, or in Edmonton, sure Gretzky has puck skills but there's no toughness and is he really a leader?

Like seriously, what the fuck?!

No. I'm just saying the team can manage just fine without him. Hes not the heart and soul of this team.

I'm beginning to believe that.

He should be but I haven't seen him grab the team by the scruff of it's neck and say "Let's Fucking Go!!" yet.

I think it was Lucic who did that way back in that game seven that the Leafs were leading 4-1. They got one and he really laid it on heavy pumping everyone up and we all know what happened next.

I can't recall the last time I saw a Leaf do anything like that.

For sure. I’m sure ditching a dominant two way center who has thus far been one of the greatest goal scorers hockey has ever seen will get us over the hump.

Plus the they won on Friday with him in the lineup and got shit kicked Saturday when he was out. So from what I understand that means they need him now right? That’s how this works?

Bring that goal scoring prowess into the playoffs and my opinion of Matty would most assuredly climb. But such has not been the case yet. Who cares how many goals he can score in the regular season? Show me some playoff dominance. Of course this can be said for the whole team....but the whole team isn't being paid 12 mil+ per season. Its ridiculous. The game will go on with or without him.

Ah ok well when you explain it like that, it’s just as dumb.

You're gonna have to explain how being disappointed in "a dominant two way center who has thus far been one of the greatest goal scorers hockey has ever seen" in the regular season but has not proven to be "a dominant two way center who has thus far been one of the greatest goal scorers hockey has ever seen" in the playoffs is dumb.

Being disappointed in his playoff production thus far is not what’s being discussed.

Comparing him the Phil Kessel, saying we’re more likely to win without him, saying it’s time to cut “our losses” on him… is dumb.

Yeah, I'll give you that alright.

Maybe I mis-read but I thought his playoff production was in the equation.
