GDT #5 - AUG 9, 8pm, SN - What is he doing?

Half the team did not work their "asses off." Marner was barely noticeable. Nylander was meh. But they weren't the only passengers.

That being said, team effort should have been enough to beat the Jackets.... but the puck did not go in.

I actually think Marner was great In the last two games. He was the only guy consistently driving play. He always had the puck, was winning battles and great in his own zone. The big line looked like they were on the pp all night last night and it was mostly him.

willy wasn’t himself in this series. He took a big hit in game 3 and looked like he hurt something.

auston looked pretty gassed in games 4 and 5.

big issue though is the d. Their defensemen are low talent and stink in their own end. Ceci, Barrie, dermott and holl are juat not good.

They actually missed Hainsey a lot. Never thought I'd say that. Pretty crazy and sad that he couldn't get clear upgrades over Hainsey and Zaitsev. Just a tremendous failure.

He’s an old man but Rielly never had to babysit and could take chances because hainsey could play two ones and sat back so he never gave up any himself.

The leafs spent the whole series looking for one timers and tap ins. Nobody drove the net to disrupt the d.
Basically played the slot like barries gwg last night. Stay behind the oppo player looking for a pass rather than engaging and fighting through the check.

a few plays with Matthews were especially bad. Just didn’t fight through to get to the net.

Blaming effort is such a lazy narrative. It's the NHL playoffs. They all tried very fucking hard. If this was a Tuesday regular season road game against the Coyotes you may have a point, but you can't possibly convince me that they "didn't try." That's bullshit.

They were bad because they were bad. They have a mediocre team. It's not because they didn't try.

I never said they were lazy, just not willing to agree with your "worked their asses off" comment. The Leafs are not mediocre, but too many players did not do enough.......even JT...he was only productive when teamed up with Matthews. Keefe basically said that.

I should also add to my post above (because I love saint Auston) that the stuff I mentioned above is why I think Covid might have had an impact. Matty loves to score goals and so seeing him disengaged going to the net suggests something was up.

Also is there a player in hockey that babs would love more than a fired up PLduB?

he isn’t elite but he’s realgud. That was a tremendous pick by cbj.

If they keep FReddy, they are entering another situation with a lame duck UFA you don't want to keep and will lose for nothing. They need to be proactive and make a move this offseason.

You have your answer already as to giving him an extension.

Exactly , you can only go far in the playoffs when your stars produce like stars , your secondary players chip in and team plays hard
every night .

Look at the Blues solid fuken effort from everyone

ROR , Pietro , Billington etc...did their job

Bozak , and other roles players produced and some overachieved

Need to win the war in the trenches , that extra effort isn't there on Toronto

It is what it is 4 years later

Exactly , pick a direction and move on

League fuked up

Should of followed the NBA and played 6-8 games to finish the season to determine who the 16 teams are

Give teams a shot to earn a playoff spot , many would of taken out right away and deservedly so

Leafs , Pens , and Oils got fuked in this format ………..a joke

The teams still had to win man. Don't blame the format for lackluster play.

Heard someone say that the Leafs want to score goals "their way" and not take what's given them.

When was the last time the Leafs had an above average starting goalie? Belfour or Joseph, about 20 years ago? And even then, they always had a terrible backup like Trevor Kidd or Glenn Healy.

They were asked by Keefe to play a solid defensive game, which was clearly difficult for this team. They were out-worked and out-smarted. Never once made life difficult for the Jackets goaltenders, (aside from giving Elvis an elevated heartbeat in game 4).

If game 2 was a perfect Keefe-style win, it was only because the Leafs scored first and played with the same urgency all game long.

Fairness to Anderson, he did fairly well when the leafs weren't considered an elite team.

Maybe talk Buffalo, Detroit or Ottawa into a trade for Anderson.
What would be the fair value of Anderson in a trade?

#Leafs Frederik Andersen: Last 8 potential series clinching games

Record 0-8
GAA 3.49
SV% .877

This is a big enough sample size for me that will make me hugely disappointed if this gash is in nets for us next year.

This is a goalie with a career 215-94 record.
It's painfully obvious, big games are not his thing.
