GDT #6 JAN 22 - FOOK NO MATTHEWS

Willy and Mucho really need to step up tonight. I'd also like to see Mikheyev slot in with the top six to give more push from that group. He's one of the few Leafs forwards who has been driving the net this season.

ever since he signed his new contract I feel like I have been disappointed by Mitchie's performance... am I alone in this?

and am I alone in thinking that of our big four, his deal is the one least likely to return full value? although he'll be in a good fight with Johnny T towards the back end of his...

He puts up points, but yeah he doesn't have the on-ice impact that other similar stars do. Trying to not be too picky about a 90 point guy though. Would be nice if he was more of a line driver or whatever but it's also nice that he puts up 90 points in his sleep. Overpaid but not cap killing.

I think Marner has been similar he’s just under the microscope(warranted because of his contract) more so than before. I understand him thinking he needs to shoot more so that it gives him more room to pass but do feel he’s shooting a bit much. His shot also seems to take forever to release.

I just have a hard time paying top-dollar for a guy who struggles to drive play on his own, seems to disappear for extended stretches, is not a goal scorer (has a peewee level wrist shot...), etc.

He can rack up points no doubt but I just don't see the overall value.

IMO you guys are nuts

If "all" a guy does is put up 90+ points, I'm pretty happy with him tbh. I get that it would be nice if he was the PERFECT player but it's a bit much to ask IMO. I go back and forth on it all the time and in the end I stopped caring about a guy 1-2m overpaid. It's fine.

I get that he is still a pretty elite player, all things considered. Maybe his contract negotiations just left me with a sour taste in my mouth. I do still maintain he is overpaid, closer to $2m annually than $1m. And sure, if you're going to overpay, do it on star players.

Maybe this is my emotional fan side coming out. But I don't think I'd be too upset if we were actively looking to trade Mucho (obviously that may change based on the return).

It's funny, I was pretty anti-the JT contract but I'm not even sure that mucho's deal is better value...
