GDT #62: Canes @ Leafs

They really weren't dominated from puck drop. They were the better team for the first half of the game, other than the special teams

Underrating issue in this one also was that freddy stunk.

Oh get the hell out of here with that bullshit.

What did we give up, like 70 breakaways and 2 on 1s? In my life, I've never seen that many defensive breakdowns in a game. No exaggeration. In all these thousands upon thousands of Leafs games I've watched, this was the worst out of all of them. Blame the fucking goalie. Get out of here.

Andersen is shit and he certainly wasn't great.

But you're right. Blaming him for last night is hilarious.

I was willing to say the coach was the issue after the early Keefe hot streak. Elite nerd shit, elite results. Everything was lining up. I hate doing this generally, but if you remove their best ten game stretch of the season (which feels like an outlier) and their worst ten game stretch (probably also an outlier)... Their record is kind of sad.

There's an issue here. Goaltending is included in that issue but it's not the only thing

Freddy was garbage. Sorry.

Willing to bet that if you were to put on your stats cap, which somehow suddenly fell off last night, you'd find a way to show that the 50 shot barrage, plus shot attempts, plus the lovechild of corsi and fenwick, and a sprinkling of xgf-off% would have grinded down any normal goalie into a fine powder by the end buzzer last night.

This was the worst defensive effort you have ever seen from this franchise and you're busy talking about Andersen.

Remind of one good save he made.
They allowed like five point blank shots as soon as zamboni came in including at least one breakaway.

He wasn't good. He allowed a fuckton of goals. Of course he wasn't. But he made plenty of great saves and wasn't close to the worst issue. In fact he may have been their best player.

Blaming Andersen is lazy analysis and a cop-out to admitting the teams' flaws.
