GDT #62: Canes @ Leafs

The spirits are not with us, right now.

Andersen looked amazing for the first period plus.

The adjustment bureau, for whatever reason, has really dialed in decades of shit results for this city and team.

Its had a profound effect on me, but god was kind, I lived in Ottawa and I was forced to watch the greatest team to ever play in any league , in the world, history, the Montreal Canadiens.

Blackouts and such.

I was tormented, cause I wanted to watch the Leafs, but they were such putrid shit, I didn't realize at the time, god was doing me a massive.

Btw, we have heard about how great this Canadien was, and how great that Canadien was.

Jacques fucking Lemaire folks, holy fuck, that was a serious hockey player. Ten times better than Marner.

Btw, Carolina has been nicely constructed. If you have really, good dmen. And a good goalie, you can control a lot of the ice surface.

We went too top heavy, too soon. imo.

But its fixable.

Jacques fucking Lemaire folks, holy ****, that was a serious hockey player. Ten times better than Marner.

Marner has twice the skill Lemaire had. Lemaire had 10 times the heart, determination and grit than Marner.

So the Canes are now missing both their NHL caliber goalies in Reimer and Mrazek and are also down Pesce and Hamilton on the back end.

And you guys are worried?

Lemaire was skating with a pair of skates that Marner would probably labour with a lot.

Jacques fucking Lemaire was incredible. I am stunned hockey fans and hacks don't gush over the guy.

I was pretty impressed Lou Lam brought him into our organization. The guy was just fucking competitive and had a shot, that was beyond sniper.

Best shot in NHL history. The guy tanked on purpose, didn't score goals, when the game was up, cause he wanted to stay private.

12 million dollar player in today's NHL

But he didn't escape my eyeball test. Guy was the best kept secret in NHL history imo. Superstar who didn't want to be, at all.

And don't even get me started on Larry fucking Robinson. Aside from Orr, best dman I ever saw, great coach, great guy, Shanahan should have him on the bench imo.

Guy, STILL, could scare anyone on the team, Clifford included. To try harder. Just the look.

Larry Robinson. Foof.

Or Savard or Lapointe.

What would those guys make now? Unimaginable.

Moved to Ottawa at age ten, got to hang with Bobby Smith and yeah, sorta beat him lol. But more importantly, got to watch les Canadiens.

I hated it at first, heck i was a huge Leafs fan at ten. But, man, watching those guys, got to be a habit.

What a team. What players.

We have some great ones here now in Toronto.

Reminds me of my youth, watching this kind of talent. I don't really care if we win the cup or not, I just like seeing great hockey again, like I saw when I was very, very young.

I am getting it, AGAIN. Its great.

Seriously dude? I grew up on Lemaire, Robinson, Cournoyer, Lafleur, Shutt, Dryden etc. I know how good they are but there is a reason people use era adjusted stats.

Where did you watch them? In Canada? And I was force fed the Habs.

I am not a stats guy Habsy.

I coached, and I didn't go with stats. I should have incorporated them YES.

They are impressive and important. Anyone knows this now.

But stats don't measure all the time.

How an athlete takes fear and turns into a fuel habsy.

That... Is what it is.

Its why, if I am Kyle Dubas, I don't trade Kapanen.

He is the modern day.... playoff mercenary. Dick Duff dude. You remember Dick Duff. Duff could barely get an erection for an NHL regular season game.

Playoffs? Dick Duff? Lol. The dude got hard man.

84 regular season NHL hockey games. Exhibition games? Playoff games?

Dude, you ever hang with any NHL players? I have, and still do and am about to hang with a lot more. They hate and despise how long this crazy season is.

Hockey tires you out Habsy. It goes deep. Muscles pooped out for weeks.

NFL? Smart. Very smart.

NHL? Its like a factory man. Way too taxing.

I just watch it now for the grace. I really don't give a crap about some guy skating around the ice carrying some ugly mug.

NHL is fun to watch now. Everyone can skate thank god.

Just enjoy don't get worked up over it.

Montreal. I literally lived down the street from Lemaire and Robinson growing up and let his kid Patrice play baseball and street hockey with us when he was younger than us. Why? Lemaire's kid.

Unlike a lot of your tripe, the above is all true.

Jacques Lemaire was the number 1 C on a dynasty team. 200 foot player. Clutch goals in the playoffs. Revolutionary head coach.

Yet the Habs have yet to retire his number. BS.

jacques fucking lemaire man. Jacques fucking lemaire.

Habsy, you gotta understand, I hated the habs. But after watching them, forced to watch, them, twice a week. This Lemaire and this Robinson.

I haven't seen anyone in blue and white that has matched with one of those two guys, don't get me started on Beliveau, Savard, or Lapointe.

That team was just pure sick. And I was clockwork oranged into watching it, and I thank god every day, that I was forced to watch them.

Lemaire, Robinson, Lafleur, Savard, Lapointe, it was sick to watch, And boy did the crowd love it. Cournoyer? Henri Richard?

Gimme a break, and I could probably find more.

Tripe? Lol You are something else Habsy.

Have you ever put yourself into one of my shoes or anyone on this boards shoes, and had to cheer for the Leafs?

Dude, someone should do a psychological profile on a veteran Leaf fan. Do a PHL study on it.

Its awful Horrible, atrocious, seems to be the new word. Someone, should do a phd study on what it does to a guy, who gives his all for a NHL club, and gets nothing year, after year after year.

Zeke , gimme the stats on that.

The psychological effect of being a perennial loser, year after year, after year.

I still thank god, I was forced to watch the Montreal Canadiens, thoughout my childhood. Do I like them yeah, do I love them? Sorta. But the stupid Leafs are my number one.

But blackouts in Ottawa in retrospect, allowed me to watch NHL perfection.

One of my best business buddies had Oilers tickets in their heyday.

He and I compare stories of watching the very, very best. Awesome stuff.

Interesting no one has brought that out yet.
