GDT #64: Time to fire up the Maple Leafs Express and run train on the motherfucking haters.

Yeah, if Muzzin is out at all...

Trial by fire for Dermott, Sandin, Lilly. And Barrie gets an opportunity to earn a lot of money.

Why would you not include holl (who may be our most consistent defender) in that list.

If those are the 6 we would probably see something around:
Dermott - barrie
Sandin - holl
Marincin - lilly

Any word on Dubas looking for free wallets lately? Be nice if he could hit on some cheap D help next year

we better hope so. teams don't appear to be willing to trade us a D for the guys we've assumed would garner that return.

another Soupman but a blueliner would be a godsend.

As of now I don't see dubas not wanting any of Rielly, Muzzin, Holl, Dermott, Sandin, Lilly in the starting lineup next year.

If there's an upgrade to that it'll be via trading one of those guys I think.

Liljegren passes my eye test for the most part but the stats don't necessarily translate yet. I agree with the Leafs here. Play the fuck out of him. You need to see how much you can trust him and Raz heading into next year (and what role they can be capable of).

I'm also interested to hear how Rubins has looked down on the marlies. I can see he's been a regular at least. Nice combo of skating and size imo and only 21.

22 but yeah. They have a lot of guys that can probably fill in as a 6/7.

Sandin and Lilly clearly have NHL talent. They are just 19/20 and have never played against players/teams this good before. Also they are playing with each other, and at times being exposed to other teams top lines.

They'll figure it out.

That rush by lilly when he recognized that Moses split the neutral zone, and jumped up, gained the zone, and ripped a wrister from the slot was something else. Didn't know he had that kind of shot. He's going to be good. He moves the puck so well. He's got some strength too. I think I may agree with whoeever said he has more talent and upside than Sandin. Think he may be a good fit for Rielly in the long run.

Sandin's hockey IQ is great though. He just needs to get stronger and gain some experience.

Sandin/Lilly are as green as the grass. Holl is just ok(he's paid fairly). At this point Dermott is just ok. I don't see any of that changing in time for next year. None of them are stoppers you'd want out there vs top opposition anyway.

maybe we see a leap from the kids here down the stretch. but it looks to me like, unsurprisingly, they will still be very much works in progress going into 20/21.

Rielly and Muzzin are solid players, but it's crossing your fingers after that and we know what happens if either gets hurt, let alone both.

He's absolutely extremely toolsy. I did say he is more talented than Sandin. I never thought it was particularly close. I mean there's a reason he was a consensus top 5-7 pick in the draft for the majority of his draft year. The question for him was always his IQ. It took awhile for him to fully figure out the AHL and I suspect the same will happen in the NHL. But the guy is the full package. They need to keep playing him.

As for Sandin.. The guy thinks the game at another level which is an amazing asset in itself as a D. He'll be great, but I like Lilly's upside a lot better tbh.

Holl has been very good as a stopper against top competition, actually.
In fairness, Muzzin kinda carries him. It's hard to tell how good he is on his own but he's clearly better than just "ok." They work amazingly well as a pair against toughs so why change it.

For 2005

Leafs record in the last 3 games against two top 5 teams in the NHL: 2-1-0 (109 point pace)
