Now THIS would have been a game that Anderson could be blamed for if they lost.

Gutsy effort. The top guys came to play and the young defenders held their own. Now Freddy, get your shit together.

Some dirty dirty goals tonight, hard working, front of net kind of goals. The one's you need to score in a tight-checking playoff type game.

Yeah, I cringed when he took that heavy hit earlier on. If Dermott is picking it up as we go into the playoffs it would be huge.

So I'm a bit late to the party. But quick thoughts.

This was the scrappiest I've seen the team play in a while. It reminded me of the early Babcock years where he had a lot of shitty players playing their asses off and they were actually kinda tough to play against every single night. As the talent on the roster increased, it felt the hunger level went down a bit. That fucking Zamboni fiasco might have actually lit the fire underneath these guys in a way that nothing else could. Matty is playing like he's five feet taller than the opposition. Marner is dancing - although he whiffed on the pass to the Matty goal, his moves to get him in that position in front of the net and move the puck over was stellar. Willy is continuing his beastification process. And Tavares man, I love that guy - he is so crazy sneaky and elusive in tight spaces, and then he unleashes that wrister and it's fucking heavy and amazing. He's honestly just not getting the luck he needs, or he'd have maybe 32-35 goals right now.

Freddy is still shaky, but also the victim of some shitty luck or maybe lack of focus or something. But hey, everyone here loves to say when we lose that the other goalie was better than him. Well, regardless of your thoughts on him, he's found a way to come out on top in two huge games. Just hoping he finds his killer instinct, which seems to have left him. He's not explosive and agile like he usually is. The fact that that wraparound attempt almost beat him was nuts. I feel like normal Freddy would've made that routine, but here he actually got lucky that the player just didn't quite wrap it around enough. Good for us, bad for them.

Gotta give big kudos to the D. Not Marincin, he's garbage. But Dermott is playing big, Sandin is toughing it out, Rosen didn't look out of place, and frankly I like Lilly a lot and don't really get why Keefe only gave him 5 minutes. I'm wondering if I fast forwarded through a commercial too far and didn't hear something? Keefe should just keep riding him. Let him learn on the fly. This is a huge opportunity to get these kids some big minutes and see what they can do. Don't be benching anyone for Marty fucking Marincin. Come on.

I mean, pretty good compared to usual Marincin? Okay. Pretty good compared to other players? Eh.

Guy is a 7th dman on a good team. He really shouldn't be playing, but we're desperate.

This is all you needed to say, the team is missing Rielly, Muzzin AND Ceci. Lilly's probably not ready for prime time. If everybody's healthy he is the 7th d-man, isn't he?

I’m not sure why they won’t play Lilly more. I don’t see him stumbling much frankly.

I've been captain of the Lilly defence force for a couple of years now, and I'm entirely willing to say that he's getting caved in. The tools are obviously and clearly there, but he's playing super, super safe. Which leads to not having the puck a lot, and chasing it around a lot. No pinches, bad gaps, a lot of passive chasing. Great north-south skater, makes a great exit pass, isn't physically overmatched along the boards. But the decision making speed to be an NHL regular isn't there yet.
