GDT #7: 14/5/22 - Must Win

Calgary unwisely gave him a 3 year deal and it expired the year he hit 104 points. His little bro got 8.2 for not even 50 points yet. That family is cutthroat. He's looking at 10 per +
Probably however he's precisely what I think Matthews needs on his line. Matthews is the obvious attention getter from opponents, Tkachuk would change that. I know it's pure speculation and Fan talk however if the Leafs can replace Nylander and Tavares with Tkachuk and another 2C? I think you will immediately see a difference in the playoffs.

While the Leafs also got away with some calls what I saw was a Leaf team once again unwilling to break the rules, they only tried to bend them.

In the playoffs if you're not cheating you're not trying.

lol...Matt's playoff line is 3 goals and 9 points in 21 games, including 0 goals in 6 this year.

if we're moving Nylander it's not going to be for that guy.
This is why you'll not improve.

Put Tkachuk on Matthews line. I'll wage he does way better.

And if you didn't see Nylander circle the net to avoid contact multiple times last night I don't know what game you watched.

I like Nylander, always did, he doesn't pay the price in the playoffs.

The major concern with nylander is that you're unlikely to get value for him in trade and you're unlikely to find a better way to spend 6.9 million.

Hes not perfect but thats 2 playoffs in a row hes been good in. This definitely has to make you question how much you're willing to spend on him on an extension though and if thats enough to keep him.

by making a bad trade? I agree 100%
Lol. I'm just reminding you not rubbing it in but trying the same thing five years in a row and expecting a different outcome in a sign of insanity. Just look HOW they lost. While no doubt this year was far less embarrassing in their play you can't just sit there and think "oh it can't happen six straight years ". Yes. It can.

Acquiring a guy like Tkachuk is not a bad trade. Trading Nylander for Verhaeghe would be.

On a business level I agree 100. However I really do think getting Tkachuk for Nylander is getting full value even if a little bit more expensive. The Leafs have too many similar forwards imo.

Well sure, if we can get a much better player for him, that's another thing entirely

You guys need an asshole. Pure and simple.

Tucker
Corson

Type guy
Roberts. Tucker. Yes.

Tkachuk would be a great add through the draft and on an ELC, but yeah, we can’t trade Willy for him.

This team needs Marchand. If that guy was going UFA I’d move heaven and earth to get him and would never look back.

So you think your center isn't good enough to effect the outcome? I think he does better on the Leafs actually.

If he plays with Matthews, sure. But Lindholm is in the same range as Tavares, maybe a hair better.

Can only stack your top line so much.

I've had a couple days to reflect - as I was driving home from Quebec City and had to watch game 7 in a Sudbury hotel with the fam. The drive gave me time to reflect a little.

I felt pretty confident that the team could tie it up in regulation, especially with the powerplay - but nothing.

Certainly not as mad as I was losing to the Habs last year - but a couple things piss me off.

- those Nick Paul goals were gross, both were fucking ball hockey goals.
- the team was "trying really hard" to end the 3rd, but nobody seemed that interested in going to the hard areas.
- we needed an ugly goal to tie the game, pure and simple

On the positive side:

- Not sure I can complain about the coaching much, pretty even
- Campbell has looked good since his return from injury, despite a couple lop-sided losses
