GDT #8 - 2023/10/28 - TOR @ NSH 7pm - LoF Revenge Game

I don’t get how the strategy works better the worse the center is.

You can pull off 99% of the centers in the league for Matthews/JT.

i think kampf is better than most Cs at sticking with his man. If you get a C that's better than Kampf at that specific skill then sure yeah that would be better.

It's almost like part of OT is to prevent the other team from scoring as much as it is scoring yourself, and that you have more than the opening faceoff to accomplish it

i'd go with jarnkrok, who can stick with his man but is faster with the puck and more aggressive on the puck than kampf.

It's not that Kampf ia the 3rd best C.

Being a "center" is irrelevant 3v3 anyways.

It's that he's both a good faceoff guy and a good defensive guy and that's literally all that matters for that specific role.

This guy gets it

He should be your leader.

when Sammy is playing we will lose more in OT n when he’s not and we got Woll in net we will win more often

Who starts and all that shit will be less an issue once we get a steady quality starter goalie between the pipes for our team

Oh, I disagree entirely. You're going to give up chances in 3v3. If your goalie can't give you a few saves, you're toast.
I just feel like most goals in 3 v 3 are 2 on 1's or worse in which the goalie has little to no chance in general, but yes, a huge save is even huger if you can get one

The chances are obviously of better quality but in 15 minutes minimum last season, 3 goalies didn't give up a goal and 12 goalies (including Sammy) had a .900 or better SV%. So it's not like goalies can't stop anything in 3v3.

Median SV% is in the .850 range. Goalies are always at an advantage in every tracked type of shooting situation.

Now, with all of that said. The Leafs are fucking brutal in 3v3. They allowed 52 shots per 60 minutes last season, and only took 26 for. 2nd worst shot share in the league in 3v3. That we're only mildly below average in goal share is fucking amazing and a testament to how talented our OT shooters are when they get a chance.

Probably cause Tavares is on too much

For the quality on the Leafs PP, that pass back to the rushing player still looks so clumsy. Like the rushing player is taking too long to get up to speed, giving the PK time to identify it. Would also love to see them mix it up once and a while, and just rush it straight in.

SF60/SA60

Auston: 42/59
Willy: 36/56
Mitch: 31/55
JT: 13/59

Only Ras and Kampf (whose job is to get the fuck off of the ice whenever we have the puck) had worse shot share in 3v3 than JT.

He's literally unplayable in 3v3.

More numbers from last year

GF60/GA60

Auston: 11.93/11.93
Willy: 12.07/12.07
Mitch: 10.34/10.34
JT: 4.18/16.72

I mean, the takeaway here is pretty obvious. JT shouldn't see the ice at 3v3 in any capacity.

I'm sick and fucking tired of that back passing powerplay bullshit. Every team does it though.
