GDT - Auston's Home coming (Last game before Christmas) | 9:00PM EST SNETO

Backhand floater over the goalie top shelf at full speed. That is way way way harder than he made it look.

we're heading into christmas with the 17th best record in the league and 10th in the east. "2 games back" of both the canes and the bruins.

with 3 very beatable teams next week heading into the new year.

Hate to say that I agree with Greg Millen but we are not having the 2nd half that we had last season either.

Team looks better without Bozie and Smith. Funny how it goes when they start scoring. They're finally getting some good secondary scoring. Brown, like many of the other rookies, is getting better as the season grinds on.

I like the way Babs is challenging Willy to carry a line. Kadri must feel like he won the lottery (Goat too!).

How about Freddy though, eh? 1 goal on 60 shots, playing back-to-back. Sheeeeet.

Great to get 2 wins headed into the Christmas break. I think we've been taking too many useless penalties. Our PK has been amazing so far but we can't be playing good teams and giving up all these free chances.

It's pretty crazy that he's up to .923 and matching the best overall performance of his career thus far, given just how horrific the year started out.

Going to be interesting to see when he does finally hit a funk again, how long it lasts, of if he's easily able to get back in a groove.

....and if his body will hold up.

I'll be honest, I was shitting my pants after the first five games. He's rebounded well beyond expectations. I never would have seen him over .920 by the new year.

He's also looking like he'll be better than his career numbers to date. I'm very confident he won't go into a prolonged funk. This cat has some serious mental fortitude, being able to pull it together after that horrific start and much of Toronto running around with its hair on fire.

It's a rhetorical question, but how in the bloody **** does Greg Millen still have a job on TV? He is the most grating turd I have ever encountered calling hockey (and that says a lot given how low the bar is today). Part of the Leafs revitalization has to involve getting this asswipe off Leafs broadcasts!

I haven't felt this confident in our goaltending since before the first lockout.

Andersen won't keep playing at a .930 plus level forever. But he's a good, reliable goalie that settles everything down. We haven't had that since Belfour. He's not as good as Belfour but you need a goalie that isn't a roller coaster that you never know what you'll get. And it's not just this year. He's never had one of those league worst goalie seasons like Bernier and Reiner had.

and yah like Beleafer said, it's real impressive that the first 5 games didn't railroad his entire year. We've seen this market do that to most goalies that have played here. He's got the mental strength to be the starter in Toronto. Not all goalies have that.

....and in theory at least, this should be about as bad as our overall team defense will likely ever be in front of Andersen.

The more the kids grow, the more Babcocks system & coaching starts to gel, and with an addition or two on the blue line, he's only going to have more and more reliable support in front of him.

The other thing I am becoming so impressed with with Mathews is how he can play a strong tall game... where he goes where he wants to, but then so quickly and easily can duck and cut around being completely elusive to defensemen trying to contain him. Last night when he was stopped on a few of his chances the D tried to grab him and keep him away and he just turned, ducked and rolled off.

He is literally playing a sundin style game and a marner one as well with his amazing skating and edges work.

Yesterday I was caller 9 on TSN radio for a mathews jersey... needed to be caller 10.

I still think people are forgetting how they felt about bernier and reimer at the start, because how bad it was the past couple years.

heck, lots of leaf fans even felt great with toskala in net to start.

Just admit you are wrong on this front and we can all move on.

Maybe. I mean some thought they were top 10 goalies. But really we never saw them battle through any sort of adversity. And thats big for a goalie here. Everyone since Belfour crumbled when they went through what Andersen did the first 5 games.

He has the mentality to succeed here. Thats pretty big IMO and what gives me confidence in him.
