Leaf players gave Horacek the game sweater for his first win. good on them..... now tell someone to take off the stupid "interim" tag on the name tag.

I almost forgot what it's like to look forward to a game. Really hope these guys can keep this going. Solid play has been so lacking.
 
You know how bad it was ... if you eliminate the Buffalo game, you won't find two games, any two, that have a cumulative shot total of 46 over the past two seasons under Carlyle.

He gave bad a bad name.

You were, but you were also ragging on the players big time just 24 hours ago. You and almost everyone else.

Trading JVR for a mid-round 1st? I know you must see how crazy that sounded in retrospect. A 25 year old who may score 40 goals this year and is locked up for another four years at $4M. Steal of all steals. Like I said, if you're trading him for some random first, you have to get rid of Kessel for the same return at the same time.
 
Is this the same guy who thought it a good idea to put an opponent in a choke hold while skating through the neutral zone with 4 minutes left and a 2 goal lead?

Yeah. Here's another ... Number of games in his entire tenure as coach with 20 or fewer shots against: 4. Number of games during his tenure where the Leafs allowed 50 shots against: 5.

You could do an entire Harpers Index of Randy **** ups.

Brainfart to be sure. One of only a couple small ones this game, and without Carlyle, they can be dealt with now.
 
Their spacing is much better now. Horachuck said he is using Trotz's 5-5-5 rule, which is you want all 5 guys in each zone.

This was something I had been noticing under Carlyle. There were times in the camera's view there were 1-2 Leafs in the picture, vs 4-5 guys for the other team. The forwards cheat in the defensive zone, and didn't backcheck, which forced the defensemen to back off. Their spacing was terrible, and led to conceding a lot of ice.

They've now given up less than 30 shots in 4 of their last 5 games. And it looks like Kessel is heating up again, so that should sustain them for a while.

That was far more than just the odd time. It was every single game.
Behold, the former defenseman who can't coach defense.
 
Really enjoyed watching the Leafs battle for the puck. It was so aggravating watching them let the other team take the puck, in their own end, without any attempt to get to it first. You could see the difference fighting for the puck made in the game, creating several opportunities that would have never materialized otherwise.

It's one win so let's keep our thoughts in check, but a lot of good to take away so far.
 
I appreciated that the fans made some noise to let the players know this is the right way to play. It may be a bit boring but winning trumps boredom. There was a moment that even the commentator noted the noise
 
Grats on the win Leafers but it's still way early to be anointing Horacek Moses.
