Maybe i should clarify....
60+ once
50 + twice... (scoring 60, is scoring 50+)
40 + three times. (on pace for 4/5 when we look at both his lockout year, and in his rookie season but both had limited number of games; one he got recalled in January, one was only 48 games. Thats 5/6 seasons in the NHL where he was on pace for more than 40 points)
Ovechkin recently joined elite company cause he has so many consecutive seasons of 30 + goals... the fact that some of those are 40, 50 and even 60 goal seasons, doesn't take away that they were 30 goal campaigns.
He averages less than 50 points a season over his career (48.95) getting minutes and opportunity that he almost assuredly does not get on any other team in the NHL.
And without using the clutch word his production gets cut in half when hockey matters: .6 PPG in the regular season, .34 PPG in the playoffs.
49 points in a season is pretty darn good in the NHL today, and I'm not sure if you got that average including the fact that 2012-13 was a lockout year or not, but it doesn't matter... even if you counted it.. a 49 point average is good.
If you drop his minutes, drop his salary, and even assume he falls back to a 35 point/ 82 game pace (something he is on this year) he's still an NHLer. The only question is how much he is paid.
Desharnais is a product of the Montreal Canadiens lack of depth at the centre position, period.
Thats true, but last time I looked, there are plenty of teams who lack depth and could use him as a third liner; just not at 3.5 million.
