The Canes finish the 3 game roadie in Canada.

Behind 3 PP goals against the best penalty kill in the league, another 3 point night from Jarvis and 2 from Ehlers, the Canes dog walked the Pens on Sunday. Andersen was good when he needed to be. We should see Bussi in goal.

The Habs are in a 4 way battle for 3rd in the Atlantic, tied with the Bruins but having played 1 fewer game. A regulation loss tonight drops them into the Wild Card. Detroit is 2 points back, surging Ottawa is 3 back. The Hab are 5-4-1 in their last 10 and are coming off a 7-3 win over the Islanders that featured a 5 point night from Cole Caufield. His hat trick moved him to 2nd in the league with 43 goals, 2 behind MacKinnon. Nick Suzuki has 61 assists, tied for 6th in the league, Lane Hutson is tied for 9th with 58. All 3 are averaging at least a point per game. Jakub Dobes has taken over in goal, he’s at 2.91/.893 in 34 games. Jacob Fowler has supplanted Sam Montembeault as the backup, he’s at 2.72/.899 in 13 games. The Habs can score, 3rd in the league just ahead of the Canes. They’re 25th in goals against. Their PP is good, 3rd in the league, but the PK is bad, 27th at 76.5%

Are the Habs a bit more top heavy than the Canes as far as scoring is concerned? Suzuki and Caulfield have good numbers this season, much higher than our leading scorers. But are the Canes more evenly distributed?

They have 11 players with at least 10 goals, the Canes have 12. Slafkovsky, Suzuki and Oliver Kapanen all have at least 20, the Canes have 5 - 20 goal scorers. Slafkovsky needs 3 for 30, Suzuki needs 6. Jarvis is 1 goal away from 30, Aho and Svech each need 5. The Habs are probably a bit more top heavy but the distribution is pretty close to what the Canes have.

Where there is a big difference is on the PP, their goal distribution is very top heavy. Salfkovsky has 14 PP goals, Suzuki and Caufield each have 10 but the next highest is Demidov with 4. Svech leads the Canes with 8, Ehlers and Aho have 7, Ghost and Jarvis have 5.

Yeah, Montreal has quality players up and down the lineup, but their goal production is VERY top heavy. But they have a lot of guys that are capable on the night, so it doesn’t feel like a "shut down Suzuki’s line and have an easy night" kind of a game plan against them. In a lot of ways, they remind me of Carolina’s early Dundon era teams, and that’s on purpose since they’ve followed a lot of the same blueprints for roster construction, playing style and draft/development. If there’s one team in the NHL other than the Hurricanes that’s gonna show up and man to man you all over the ice and take away time and space on the breakouts, it’s Montreal. It’s not a pure like for like copy, but it ain’t far off. One benefit … Canes/Canadiens games the last two seasons have been fun to watch. There’s not a lot of figuring out the opponent when the systems are so similar.

No changes at the morning skate, Andersen goes in goal again. Looks like they’re trying to get him on a roll.

You guys know where I stand on this … they need to get somebody cooking and Freddie has shown more signs of life than Bussi

Can't hardly hear Mike and Tripp anymore and earlier the Stadium audio mix was way too strong.. It's happened several times recently, I think FDSN is clearly in DGAS mode as they close up shop this year
