Yeah, it was a rather exciting game. I am amazed (sorta) that these young guys played such a decent team game.

Even Tripp said the Canes had to go all out in OT, since their track record in the shootout wasn't favorable.

War-on-Ice Event Charts

Running Event charts for both shots attempted (includes missed and blocked) and scoring chances are pretty much neck-and-neck throughout the game.

Long bars on the shift charts are Slavin / Hainsey, otherwise known as How Slavin Got 29:54 of Time on Ice.

Lots of close-in blocked shots on the Canes shot chart, but all three goals nicely scored from the slot subarea.

Rask line had a good 6-point night with a goal/assist for both Rask and Skinner and two assists for Di Giuseppe. Staal's line was drawing the primary defensive attention. So good on the second line for taking it to the net, even when Hedman stretched shifts to cover theirs, as well.

Add one by the top line and it was a good scoring night with goals by all the top goal-scoring names (Staal, Rask, Skinner) from whom production is expected. Lindholm had a critical primary assist for Staal's goal, but there's the potential four-goal difference.

Entertaining game with a heck of an OT finish with depleted forces against a benchmark opponent. Add back Faulk and Wisniewski next season (yeah, it could be that long for Faulk), stir in some Zykov and Aho, throw in a couple of veteran cap-busting trade pick-ups...and we may have something.
