A chance to hang another banner in the rafters.

The Canes got good news on the goalie front yesterday, with Raanta only appearing to suffer a cramping issue on Sunday. He’ll back up Kochetkov tonight. And Andersen should be available for the playoffs. Seth Jarvis has a 5 game point streak and goals in his last 3, giving him a chance at a 20 goal season. The power play is still sick, Jarvis’ goal notwithstanding. It’s dropped out of the top 10, 11th at 22.5%. In the last 15 games, the PP is 4 for 39.

The Rangers had an extra day off, not having played since losing to the Bruins on Saturday. They’re 7-2-1 in their last 10. Tonight is their first of a back to back, they host the woeful Habs tomorrow before the Caps come to town on Friday. Besides the usual suspects, Andrew Copp has 18 points in the 15 games he’s played since being acquired at the trade deadline. He’s coming off a hat trick against the Islanders on the 21st but left early with a lower body injury and didn’t play against the Bruins. He, Chytil and Kakko are game time decisions tonight. We‘ll see Shesterkin in goal tonight. The Canes beat him 2 weeks ago when he gave up 3 goals on 24 shots. We saw Georgiev in the first 2 games of the season series. The Rangers are 16th in goals per game, 2nd in goals against, 3rd on the PP and 8th on the PK.

Bally Sports South for TV.

More of the same: need good zone clears and entries, limit the Rags second chances in the offensive zone, no dumb penalties, and a PP goal would be a nice addition.

I kind of doubt the Rangers will push Copp back for this one, kind of like the Canes aren't pushing Raanta back. The Division race is important, but ... yeah. He was a great pickup for them, by the way, and gave them some depth line consistency they had been missing. With so much on the line, this is Carolina's last real tuneup for playoff hockey and for the most part they've been rising to such occasions. The head to head series has left little mystery as to what the Canes need to beat New York ... they need Aho's unit to produce. Speed and creativity are always going to be the answer to Gallant's high testosterone puck pressure system, and that's Aho's wheelhouse. The other thing to watch is the Rangers' ability to manufacture goals late. Carolina has improved their play when the other team pulls the goalie after going through a heck of a lull in that regard, but should they be up a goal late then this one will be a real doozy of a test.

Kind of a wide eyed moment for Kochetkov tonight. Division title for the Canes if we win, MSG, and Shesterkin down at the other end.

Will be interesting to see how he responds.

Well if the situation was flip flopped even money says a shutout.

Honestly, if this kid has a jangly nerve in his body I'd be surprised. He's already survived a full season with that horrible Torpedo team in Russia without batting an eyelash, and rolled into Chicago to play with the Wolves like he owned the place. And other than whiffing with the glove on that first shot in relief the other day, he's been utterly professional with the Canes. Yeah, his numbers aren't dominant, but he's gotten the job done under far less than ideal circumstances. I'd bet that if the Canes lose tonight, it won't be because that guy breaks down.

I see the same, the kid looks pretty confident and polished for his first couple of NHL starts after taking over Chicago like he truly did own the place. I think the sky is the limit in terms of the future number one stopper here in about a year or so, which as a Canes fan is refreshing.

His numbers for Torpedo were similar to Andersen’s numbers for the Canes. But he was a .500 goalie because that team couldn’t score.

He clearly has thing to work on, but those are things (puck handling, seeing through traffic, rebound control) that all young goalies need to work on. His bar is incredibly high.

Anyone know where Tripp is? Hopefully not Covid?
He either was pranked, hacked, or there's something weirder going on:

EDIT: It's deleted now but it was a tweet from Tripp's account saying "I have a drinking problem. I am oj'i [sic] at the moment and want to thank all of the Huge Canics" [sic]

Since he sent that out, a lot of concern for him being tweeted by fans and this from Sara:

I hope for his sake he was hacked and not about to lose his job over something that has to play out on social media like that for the whole world to see. Hate to see that for anyone.
