GDT: Canes v. Avs 12/5 7:00

Necas' timing on that one was spot on. Svech was stationary in front along with a defender, but Javis slowly cruised through the crease right before Necas released that shot as well. The keeper never had a chance, especially not with that shot placement. Textbook stuff, really.

One other thing that stood out to me last night was faceoffs. I said in the preview that the Avs were bad, but they got crushed last night. The first was relatively even, the Canes won 9 of 17. In the 2nd they won 16 of 24 and in the 3rd it was 13 of 18 for a gaudy 72%. Staal was 14 for 21, including 10 of 16 against MacKinnon. Oddly, McKinnon was 4 for 5 in his defensive zone but 2 for 11 in the other 2 zones. Aho was 11 for 15.

Yeah, you and the Avs fan who sat behind me last night loudly rooting for ANYBODY to score that last goal.
Which perfectly encapsulates why I don't play fantasy sports and virtually never bet on anything besides my favorite teams winning. Last night's exception to the latter, placing an over/under bet, put me in the awkward position of benefiting from when the Avs narrowed the lead to 4-3 (and therefore a win on my 6.5 over bet) and hating the fact that their third goal led to about 1:30 of--as English football fans say--squeaky bum time.

I place bets only on things that I feel is a for sure winner, which is hardly ever. $5 a month? Maybe. I did win a fair bit of money for the Rangers/Hurricanes playoff series this past Spring. I thought favoring the Hurricanes for that series was kind of silly so I put $30 on the Rangers to win it. Cha-ching! I think that is funding my bets for the next few years.

Yeah. That's pretty why I just don't bet on anything. I don't have any particular skill or knowledge advantage and care enough about the outcome without adding any pressure, thanks very much. I don't judge anybody who places a legal wager. It's just never gonna be a thing for me.

We stayed at a MGM property when we went to see the Canes in Vegas and have decent status from our activity at the tables and slots. But I never activated their gambling app, it’s just not something I want to deal with. So I live vicariously through the friends that we went with, one of whom never graced the tables but uses one of the apps.

I didn't think I would join the books when it became legal last hockey season but I did sign up and enjoy putting in the odd 5 or 10 on stuff. A few bets a day when it started last spring when it was new, stopped for the summer, now probably just a couple a week. NHL mostly and a little MLB and EPL. No more than entertainment value stuff, but I am up about $900 total since March. Unless you're from the IRS.
