The Canes kick off a 6 game homestand, one that will see them play 11 of the next 12 at home.

After going down 2-0 to the Caps, the Canes stormed back with 6 straight goals to put them away. Vasily Ponomarev was recalled, got to the rink about 5 minutes before the team meeting and had a 2 point night, assisting on Jarvis’ game tying goal and blasting one of his own past Kuemper in the dying seconds of the game. We’ll have to see what the lineup looks like tonight, Fast will be out for a while, Necas was injured in practice on Thursday and Noesen is ill. If Noesen is well enough to play, we should see 12-6 tonight. Last night was a de facto 11-6, TDA played 3:53 and didn’t leave the bench in the 3rd period. Raanta will be in goal.

The Blues have 39 points in 37 games, 6th in the Central. They’re 6-4 in their last 10 and are coming off a win over Vancouver on Thursday. They’re 6-3 since Craig Berube was fired. Robert Thomas leads with 16 goals and 25 assists. Jake Neighbors and Pavel Buchnevich each have 12 goals. Old friend Justin Faulk has 2 goals, 15 assists but is injured and did not travel. He was placed on IR retroactive to December 29. Jordan Binnington has started 25 games in goal and is at 3.14/.902. He’s backed up by Joel Hofer, 2.76/.911 in 12 games. Like last night’s opponent, the Blues don’t score a lot of goals, 26th at 2.89 goals per game. They’re tied for 18th in goals against. Their PP stinks, 31st at 11.1%. They’re tied for 18th on the PK.

Late start due to NC State basketball game at 2. Black jerseys, Bally Sports South for TV.

St Louis is paying Schenn, Saad and Hayes a combined $15 million ... and all three are hovering around a 40 point pace for the full season. I said it at the time, but why Berube was the only one to go remains a mystery to me. Doug Armstrong just loves wasting money on old guys who don't really do much. Toss in Krug and they've got well over 20 bills tied up in a bunch of mid level dreck they could be getting from much cheaper 20 year olds. Thomas is a wonderful young player and Kyrou will come around, but these guys needed to have started the rebuild about 2 years ago.

Necas and Fast are still out, Noesen is possible. If Noesen plays, they’re back to 12-6.

Uncle Antti in net this year is like riding the upside down roller coasters after overeating at the buffet…fasten that seatbelt and hope for the best…

Did Orlov seriously think he was gonna jump to block that? He’s not David flipping Thompson
