GDT: Canes v. Habs 3/29 5:00

Meh … it looks more like over-shooting when they don’t get good lanes. That’s usually more that they either aren’t working hard enough or smart enough to make lanes and get higher quality looks. And frankly, people only complain about that when they lose, so … yeah. What was telling yesterday was the huge number of rebounds that just sat there and eventually got swept up by Montreal’s D. That’s what happens when they aren’t getting to the crease in numbers, which isn’t about shooting at all. They were too easy to defend yesterday, honestly.

That’s one reason Ghost makes such a big difference, usually. He creates out-numbered situations with his feet pretty regularly, but Montreal did an awesome job of keeping him home on the blueline yesterday. Montreal also worked their tails off getting back into plays when they got out of position. Sometimes you tip your cap and move on.

Montreal is fun to watch.
They basically play exactly the same systems as the Canes, but have less depth, go to a soft trap to sit on a lead and goon it up a little bit when guys like Xhekaj and Gallagher are on the ice.

And yet, Carolina is supposedly boring.

It's not the same system. There are similarities sure but it’s a unique system. It does cause them defensive issues.

It looked like we were putting bodies in front trying to jam a rebound in the third. That was encouraging to see for payoff reasons.

Cool … the basic structures are VERY similar. The point was … "ooo, look how fun this very similar thing is” annoys me as a fan/observer of a team that routinely gets called boring

I think the Canes play a fun style of hockey. I also agree their issue was not enough bodies to the front of the net to either get a deflection or rebound and especially to screen Dobeš who was dialed in.

I didn’t see that enough tbh. Yeah they did towards the end playing catchup but when they were up or even they weren’t doing that.

I don’t call it boring. For the record. Just observing that the Habs are fun to watch. Not in contrast to the Canes.

They haven't really done that until the end of that game. I thought there was true thought and effort, but you're right, not enough. I hope this is a harbinger showing that they will improve this and jam um home.
