The high flying Jets visit PNC for a matinee.

Today kicks off a run with 5 of the next 6 games at home. Once again, the Canes didn’t play their best the last time out, but they left Columbus with a 4-2 win, finishing a short roadie with points in all 3 games. They’re 7-2-1 in their last 10. Aside from Kochetkov back in goal, there shouldn’t be any lineup changes.

The Jets are locked into a 3 way battle with Dallas and Colorado at the top of the Central. They have 79 points in 58 games, 2 behind Dallas but with 4 games in hand. They have the best points % in the Western Conference. They’re 7-3 in their last 10 but are coming off a loss in Dallas on Thursday, which broke a 4 game winning streak. Kyle Connor leads with 24 goals, Josh Morrissey has 39 assists Mark Scheifele is averaging a point per game. In goal, Connor Hellebuyck tops the league in GAA and Save % at 2.23/.924. He’s backed up by Laurent Brossoit whose numbers are just as good, 2.26/.922. Brossoit beat the Canes in December. The Jets are 19th in goals per game and lead the league in goals against. Their special teams aren’t great, 23rd on the PP, 22nd on the PK.

Great positional defense leading to turnovers and low percentage shots, leading to quick breakouts, leading to rush chances ... Jets hockey in a nutshell. It's a style that has caused Carolina all manner of problems.

Pesce lost his stick in the offensive zone and Bob Gorman fell asleep and didn’t have a stick ready. 3-2
