GDT: Canes v. Lightning 3/11 7:30

It’s not just that even. Their passes are either predictable or high risk/forced and they also end up resorting to forced dhots that get blocked.

And the guy on the half wall puck handling looking for someone open to pass to but nobody moving/open.

They need to have plays that get guys open or get a shot lane open with crashes/net front to make it hard for the goalie to see and be there for tips and rebounds.

It’s almost like the pp needs to be a dance or a flow or set play that continues. So they try pattern 1 and see how the defenders move and that tells them to keep repeating it or to switch to pattern 2. Maybe we have guys on the PP that aren’t smart enough for that (37?). When we score It seems like we either score right away off the entry or we wear them down and get them out of position eventually or it’s off a lucky bounce.

Think of the Caps great powerplays or the lightning. You knew you had to defend Ovi and you knew where he was going to end up but they had patterns that forced the defenders to either leave Ovi open or leave something else open. They didn’t just randomly get him open and the defense didn’t forget to cover him. They were forced to leave him open or give up some other dangerous option. We just seem to move it around the perimeter looking for a random open play.
