After a disastrous trip to Canada, the Canes return home for Whalers Night.

We‘ll see what the lines are at the morning skate. After Tuesday’s interesting line combos, including the last minute change to 11/7, expect the unexpected. Kochetkov should go in goal.

The Slugs are last in the Atlantic but are on a nice little run, 7-3 in their last 10, winners of 2 straight. They beat the Ducks on Tuesday and hung 8 on the Rangers on Saturday. Tage Thompson has 28 goals, there are 8 players with at least 10. Rasmus Dahlin has 37 assists, 8th among dmen. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has started 41 games in goal and carries a 2.97/.895 stat line. He’s backed up by old friend James Reimer who is at 2.55/.908 in 9 games, 7 of them starts. They’re 10th in goals per game, just behind the Canes and 29th in goals against. They’re 27th on the PP, 20th on the PK.

I'm not holding my breath until the coaching and leaders on this team make an actual (polar's word) change to anything meaningful, and that does NOT mean just blending the forwards and praying to Jobu.

I mean, should he? At this stage I guess you rotate until one of them can get through a first period without barfing up a mediocre goal and go from there. Neither of these guys is giving me the right feedback at the moment.

This is true. He is in the starter’s crease today. Here are the lines and pairings at the skate, looks like it’s back to “normal”, except KK is once again in the doghouse.

Svechnikov - Aho - Rantanen
Martinook - Staal - Jarvis
Hall - Jost - Blake
Robinson - Kotkaniemi - Roslovic

Slavin - Burns
Orlov - Chatfield
Gostisbehere - Walker
 
I guess Jost must be showing something in practice because he's certainly not giving any indication that he should be playing otherwise. I know everybody has their nits to pick when you're on a slide, but the parsimony with callups is starting to annoy me. If the guy can't go, get some other freaking guy and quick effing around with 11/7 as your only backup plan.

Amen!!! Put up or shut up time for the guy behind the bench and the so called leaders on this team...if you gack this one up tonight, Lord have mercy where you go from there.
 
I'm ready for Rantanen to turn it on and act like a dominant scorer playing against a bunch of slugs. I heard that the Hurricanes met Rantanen's terms today, so what the [Polar's word] are you waiting for big guy? Sign on the dotted line and flex on Buffalo big time. Success is contageous. Run the losing mindset out of the room. Oh, and Goaltenders. get your heads out of your asses and start playing like you mean it. Quit giving games away & play like you NEED those 2 points. LFG!!!! Looking at you Svech and KK.
