It was a tough slog on Friday night but the Canes finally put away the pesky Red Wings. They limited the high scoring Wings to 12 shots. Not a good night for Raanta’s save % and the first was inexcusable, but take the win and move on. Martin Necas returned and was a menace all night. For the first time in his career, Jordan Martinook is on a 4 game goal streak.
The Wild are 14-11-1 since John Hynes replaced Dean Evason on November 28, but they’re just 3-6-1 in their last 10 and are 6th in the Central with 43 points in 45 games. They’re coming off a win over the Panthers on Friday, but lost Marc-Andre Fleury on a hit by William Lockwood. Jared Spurgeon was placed on LTIR last week, he’s only played 16 games this season. Joel Eriksson Ek has 18 goals, Mats Zuccarello has 27 assists. Kirill Kaprizov is averaging just over a point per game. Filip Gustavsson has started 25 games in goal, but he’s only played 3 games this month, 2 starts. He‘s at 3.36/.892. Fellow Swede Jesper Wallstedt was recallled from AHL Iowa. He made his NHL debut earlier this season. He was 2.61/.916 in 21 games in Iowa. The Wild are 23rd in goals per game and 25th in goals against. They’re 16th on the PP and 31st on the PK.
