The Canes try to climb into the series.

RBA shuffled the lines on Thursday and pulled Andersen after the 2nd period. Nothing worked. In addition to Chatfield, Walker picked up a nick and is “iffy” tonight but RBA said he’s better than he thought he’d be. They’re skating this morning, so we’ll see, the last thing we need is 2 dmen out.

I thought the shuffled lines actually got the Canes settled down a bit, but the end product wasn't there so it's not like it mattered. They still had a breakdown that lead to a goal against and still lost the 3rd period in Game 2. Not sure any amount of line juggling was going to make a dent in the flow of that game, since it was one way traffic right from the jump.

Regardless of health, here's what I'd like to see tonight.

Go play the way you play, even when things aren't going well. Ignore the nonsense and play hockey.

Set some lines and pairings and freaking play them. This trying to hide Morrow crap only made things worse. Just pick the best group you've got healthy and trust them to play.

Goalies ... let's see if we can make it through the first five shots without barfing up a goal. OK? Then worry about the next five.

That's all. Win, lose, I don't care. Just go play a respectable game of hockey.

Chatfield is out again, he’s not skating. Walker and Jarvis are on the ice. KK in, Roslovic out.

Svechnikov - Aho - Jarvis
Hall - Kotkaniemi - Stankoven
Martinook - Staal - Carrier
Robinson - Jankowski - Blake
(Ex: Jost, Roslovic)

Slavin - Burns
Orlov - Walker
Gostisbehere - Morrow
Nikishin - Smith

PP1 unchanged
PP2 Kotkaniemi, Stankoven, Hall, Burns, Morrow

Koochie only let in 1 goal on 5 shots or so and Freddie let in like 3 on 5 or 6 shots.

Koochie looked better than Anderson in that last game. All* we need is capable goaltending and that’s not what we’ve seen this series•

*that’s not really all, but…

Kooch had a bad 1st period against NJ but we recovered because… it was NJ. Florida ain’t NJ. (You can take that last statement in a number of directions. Have at it.)

Look. If you stretch out the last game to even the data, then Kooch had -0.51 goals saved above expected per 60 minutes and Andersen had -2.35. Kochetkov was not only better, he was significantly better. Relatively speaking of course, since neither of them was particularly good. Freddie looks tired and unfocused against Florida. None of what's gone down is his fault per se, but he certainly hasn't helped matters much. If nothing else, he probably needs the night off to recharge and refocus.

Come on chat, time to lock in! Or not. Whatever. Type 1 if you believe! Or don't. Type a 9 if you want. Up to you.
