I’ve given up on an improvement in the standings and I’m rather concerned about Slafkovsky and Dach. Suzuki hasn’t been sharp this season, but he has a credible track record and is likely just going through a rough patch. But Slafkovsky and Dach don’t get a pass.

FWIW - I don’t believe this Habs team have regressed, they simply don’t have the quality depth to play so many players out of position

Matheson is expected to provide top pairing 25TOI - he’s a 2nd pair Dman

Newhook is a 3C being asked to play 2nd line

Evans is an very good 4C being asked to play 2C

Laine’s injury and Dach’s slow recovery from injury has had drastic impacts to F grouping - let alone there’s no 2nd line to talk of that can generate any offense…so top line have increased burden of pressure which they already had enough of going from hunters last season to the hunted this season as opposition is paying more attention to them

Slafkovsky and Dach are earmarked to be core players when this team is suppose to compete, so their development is really important.

I’m not terribly worried about Newhook, Matheson or this year’s standings.

Yup, lack of depth. But Slaf has regressed a bit, so far.
