GDT | Game 15 | vs The Evil Empire | Saturday, November 9th | 7:00 PM EST

They choose the ice time, not the players
Yeah but the point is, there's nobody on this team that should be playing 24+ minutes. Hutson & Matheson are because they have no other option.

If there was a minute eating monster (à la Shea Weber) on this team playing 25-27+ minutes every game, the defense would be significantly better by default.

It's like when Weber got injured & Petry had to play on the first pair for half the season. He couldn't do it. Petry was an awesome #3, but a terrible first pairing guy.

This is a fallacy. They don't need to be playing those minutes as the return diminishes.

The coaching is bad.

It's not a fallacy at all, unless you think diminishing their minutes means those minutes aren't going to be given to someone else.

Do you want Savard playing 22-23 minutes instead of 20 then? Do you want Guhle playing 24 instead of 21?

Do you want Struble/Xhakaj/Barron/Mailloux playing 18 instead of 15?

The problem is, the minutes the d-men have to play get to about 120 / game, +/- with the PP.

There's no magical coaching solution for this problem.

Again, devil's advocate. Like St. Louis, Robidas came here with minimal coaching and he's probably not good enough for this.

Habs org should petition the league to have their games last only 2 periods. Gives them a better chance.

Yes I want the other D playing more minutes. Like it would make a difference.

The coaching is probably bad.

But he was also given shit to work with. There isn't a million things that can be done with this lot of players.

Two things can be true.

Habs have 3-weeks (US Thanksgiving) to close the 5pt gap to wildcard spot down to 2-3 pts

It’s important for continued development of young players and handful of prospects in Laval, this team continue to play meaningful games & have that young core understand how to play while carrying weight of expectations into March and not fold up the tent before Dec

Sal, I admire your constant positive spin on the Habs however the players have checked out. They don't get what Marty is trying to do because it's not working. Instead of going back to basics, which Marty should, he's doubling down on a hybrid system that just isn't working.

Bringing in younger players from Laval that are actually playing a system won't help that, if anything it could stunt their progress.

The issue isn't the players, people could think that all day long, it's the coaching and the lack of trust in it.

Not saying just bring in any young player from Laval.

Beck is head & shoulders above rest or the prospects in the system right now & it isn’t close, simply because of his hockey IQ.

10pts in 11GP as 20 yr old in AHL - and points have been the result of non stop motor pace, work ethic and understanding of the game (read & react), which are seamlessly transferable to NHL

There isn't a style of game or moment in a game you can't use Owen Beck’s hockey brain & presence on the ice

I want Beck / Roy / Mailloux to play and, more importantly, be placed in key roles while playing a lot of minutes. They won't be getting that in the NHL, at least not in the immediate.

If you're going to callup players from Laval, get Gignac, Barré-Boulet, Condotta, etc. to fill in the spots.

Because many people, including some here, grossly overrated the players on this team and really thought they might have a chance to push for the playoffs. That's why people like Arpon are starting to lash out.

It also doesn't help that the top of this franchise sold a false bill of goods when they said that they wanted to be "in the mix".

Don't lie to us. The team's bad and minimal effort was done to improve it. Just own it and be honest.
Yep.
When Evans is your second line centre you're gonna have a bad time.
