GDT | Game 3 | VS Wild | Tuesday, October 17 | 7PM EST

We're never going to get a franchise player, stop dreaming about that. We need to find another way.
The Bruins and Blues models perhaps. No tanking for franchise players there, though they did accidently draft some (Bergeron,Pastrnak perhaps, later). A decade of relative success ensued from smart drafting, planning, luck or something

from total shit to the playoffs every year since 2016 is good
If the sum total of one's ambition is to make the playoffs and get annihilated in the first round every year, sure. But one would hope that they aspire to more than that. As a Habs fan I'd rather miss the playoffs entirely than be a fraud that has no hope of advancing. If we aren't a Cup contender I don't give a shit about being a playoff contender. Half the teams in the NHL are technically "playoff contenders". It's a meaningless achievement.

Fans in general set the bar way too low. You want to know why the Habs can charge what they do for tickets with a straight face? Because their fans have no standards. Of course, they know this because they spent an entire generation slowly conditioning the fans to accept mediocrity as the new normal. They saw what the Leafs had accomplished with their fans and said "Why can't we have dumb, delusional fans too? It must be easier to do than building a winner. Besides, we're only allowed to hire mediocre francophone coaches and GM's so it's impossible for us to be a winner anymore anyhow. Let's just focus on making money. Fuck trying to win Cups."

Only game in town , Habs worst attendance year would look good in many USA cities

we will...we're due
I dunno, I gave up on that idea. Last one was Lafleur and it was more than 40 years ago (I don’t count Roy). Thankfully we seem to have an easier time winning Cups than getting franchise players.
