GDT Game 33: @ Colorado, Wednesday, December 21, 8:00 PM EST

Why is Eddy our second D out in OT now all of a sudden?

Odd choice.
For the same reason that he's playing on the left side: They're shopping him and letting teams get a look at him. They'll put him in as many positions as they can until someone bites, and we all know someone eventually will.

The NHL is still run by dinosaurs that love their big, hulking, physical stay-at-home d-men.

Because in the playoffs when the refs inevitably swallow their whistles, those kinds of defensemen instantly become valuable.

If you're "shopping him" then playing him in OT is the exactly what not to do as that's not his game. Jordan Harris would have been a better choice. It's like Brad was coaching the Habs last night in OT - Drouin (turnover machine) and Edmunson (pylon) on the ice together?

This team continues to gather unexpected points. I expect, with the way they are playing, they won't collapse, will wind up with a healthy number of points, and out of the playoffs. Not ideal.

You guys are really harsh sometimes. Drouin did exactly what he was supposed to, he saw the angle and drove the net. You're not going to score every time you're in alone, especially at speed from the wing. The shootouts showed us that.

Drouin didn't lose them the game. Edmundson on the other hand needs to go. If they can get a first, and after seeing what D like him have pulled in I think they can, then he really needs to go. I just can't watch him some nights. Completely exposed now that he's expected to be a top pair guy.

Neither guy cost them the game. The winning goal is on the other Habs forward who went for the rebound on Drouin’s shot but was about 3 seconds late . . . meaning he shouldn’t have, and Allen, who looked clueless on the shot.

Numbers don’t lie. XGF - XGA puts them at 30th. Now, adjusting for better than expected goaltending thus far and a difference in the conferences, I see the Habs in the 6-10 range for the lottery. (And despite the recent points, they are slowly sinking in the standings.)

So what do those 2 stats mean ? Habs are 30th for what ?

Thank you

Edmundson was also on the ice when Hoffman scored in Phoenix. I was quite surprised to see him there.

Edmundson is the only veteran on defense right now. I don’t count Wideman as he’s terrible. We’re missing Savard big time on defense, as surprising to say as it might. Half our defensemen have a really hard time without the puck trying to take it away from the other team, hence the insane shit counts we’re seeing lately.

Come on already. These aren't new stats.

Expected goals for and expected goals against. Habs metrics showing expected goals for and against at the bottom of the league.

This is when you expect to see reversion to the mean or in eye test terms, a slump.

The forwards have been picking up the slack though. 3 out of 4 points so far. Not tank worthy.

I expected the bottom to fall out, their numbers are not good, but they keep picking up points.

Yeah. Watch them win in Big D tomorrow despite being outshot 40-15 again. And then LCS will post here how this is unsustainable, the slump is coming, yada, yada . . . except that Savard and Monahan will be back soon. Just saying.
