GDT | Game 36 | at Tampa | Sunday, December 29th | 5:00 PM EST

First off everything depends on where Habs sit as deadline nears. Assuming they’re less than 8pts from wildcard…
I would argue that number is more like 4 not 8.
53% of this roster needs to play meaningful high intensity games into April for continued future growth - Slaf, Dach, Heineman, Guhle, Hutson, Xhekaj, Struble, Diekembe have never been in such games at NHL level. Suzuki, Caufield, Laine, Newhook, Evans need to refresh themselves on what those games involve again.
Overrated imo. The second group went deep enough 3 years ago to remember.
So keep em all. Dvorak, Savard, Armia will likely net mid round picks …. Habs have enough of those. Think of them as deadline acquisitions - don’t want to mess with team chemistry.
I disagree. Dvorak is a center and good on the dot. He'll get a second from somewhere and that second doesn't have to be this year, we do have enough so stock up future years which teams are more willing to give up.

Savard another second, easily.

Armia is 31. I like the player but at what price? $3m?3.5? 3 year max.
IMO Evans extends $3.5M / 4yrs, taking him to 32 for his retirement contract on what should be good teams during duration of the deal playing for a coach who trusts him.

That’s over 2x his existing $alary - 4th liners / specialists usually go for term over AAV
We need to see if this is a hot streak or if the extra ice time has helped him finally figure it out. Either way he's playing himself into Anderson money. I like Jake, honest player, but for the right offer of a prospect and pick I move him.

Squeaking into a WC spot is a double edge sword. On one hand you get those meaningful games you mentioned but on the other you lull yourself into a belief that this team is better than it really is so I would rather sell the assets.

I don't believe this run will last unless Dobes is the new Binnington so I expect them to be sellers.

You're always a decade behind current market in your thinking.
Please ...31 % unsustainable shooting percentage

Are we going to round 2 of more bad deals to bottom 6 players

Fuck it , Hugo is just unwinding bad deals dont hand out another one

Let him be somebody else`s Goodrow , Armia, and many dozen others problem

Evans is actually playing slightly less this year than last (16:01 vs. 15:38).

Also, as mentioned the other day, he had an 8.2% shooting percentage coming into the year but is at 31.3% on the season. 😬

I really do like the make-up of the current fourth line but can't go crazy on the next contract.

Nothing to do with the fact you are behind market value consistently on all analyses.

Who gives a shit about market value , Habs need to build the right team with properly slotted contracts and limit mistakes as much as possible

You can find stop gaps at way less than Jakes next contract

Enough of the Nero style cap mistakes

Beck centering 51 and 40 is fine too. I agree with Sal that Newhook should center the 3rd line next season.

The question becomes which vets do you retain? You can't replace 5 vets with rookies.

Matheson
Savard
Dvorak
Evans
Armia

(Pezzetta)

Matheson has one more year.

Who is ready to make the jump? Roy blew his chance.

I try to trade them all for as much as possible. But no point trading them for a 7th. So the market will dictate.

Beck I'd call up to replace any of the forwards.

If we have to replace them all I'm good with career AHLers coming up

And Evans is the only one I'd consider re signing. But I'm guessing he will be too expensive

Case in point from the last game (continuing discussion here). Our top line, and Carrier were getting caved all night. We won because of the bottom six.

it is fair but not for the Habs

Until we fix our top 6 and top 4D couldnt care less about paying good money and term to the supporting cast
Top-6 is fixed, Demigod is coming in March or next season … done. Dach isn’t getting moved.

Redenbacher will slot in sometime next season as RD.

If Evans can be packaged for an asset that can help in the present & future that could happen, but trade vets for picks rebuild phase is OVER
