First off everything depends on where Habs sit as deadline nears. Assuming they’re less than 8pts from wildcard…
53% of this roster needs to play meaningful high intensity games into April for continued future growth - Slaf, Dach, Heineman, Guhle, Hutson, Xhekaj, Struble, Diekembe have never been in such games at NHL level. Suzuki, Caufield, Laine, Newhook, Evans need to refresh themselves on what those games involve again.
So keep em all. Dvorak, Savard, Armia will likely net mid round picks …. Habs have enough of those. Think of them as deadline acquisitions - don’t want to mess with team chemistry.
IMO Evans extends $3.5M / 4yrs, taking him to 32 for his retirement contract on what should be good teams during duration of the deal playing for a coach who trusts him.
That’s over 2x his existing $alary - 4th liners / specialists usually go for term over AAV
yeah we aren't the Leafs who can lose a top guy and keep on trucking

I think it’s more about the lack of star power able to carry the team on their own.
All can leave quietly unless Evans takes a team friendly deal he wont accept

with Robinson Green Chelios Ludwig on D, Gainey Carbonneau Nilan Smith and Naslund up front, plenty of good vet presence
