He wasn't a stretch at five. I've read that many teams had him up higher than Michkov and that teams were trying to get our pick. Some wanted Michkov, some Reinbacher.
A slick skating big RD who already understands gap control and has offensive upside? There's plenty of teams that covet them. There's no wow there sure but there is far more surety.
Irrelevant. He was a forward drafted in that range (5-13) picks and yes, it’s my arbitrarily defined range.

Yotes had him #1 on their list at 6 , he was gone for sure
A podcast mentioned 2 teams tried to move to 5 but their pick to swap was in the teens and too low for Hugo
He wasnt a reach at all , but playing on a truly shit team now doesnt help his cause
I wish he joined a CHL team or the AHL

Probably, but also irrelevant. I think you’re missing my point. I’m not paid by the Canadiens to project 18 year old prospects 3-5 years out. Bobrov is. A lot.

The possibility for Michkov to become "special" was too great to ignore IMO. That said, who knows. Most, including me, thought the Habs were nuts for picking Bob Gainey where they did.

The way some of the other forwards picked after him are doing, ya, it doesn't look good. Even Ryan Leonard looks like he's going to be pretty damn good.

Really old. I remember all the real drafts, from 1968 onwards. Don't know who I would have wanted in 1973, when I was 17, but it wouldn't have been Gainey.
