GDT | Game 46 | @ Bruins | Saturday, January 20 | 7:00PM EST

Some cap hits will expire after 24-25 (including Petry’s) which will then allow one significant buy out. And the cost of Gallagher’s buy out will be less punishing at that point.

Until then we need to keep making incremental improvements. It’s possible one of the D will be packaged with a pick to get a proper NHL forward, even if it’s only a third liner. But a good third liner who plays a hard game and can actually play transition D. I would like to see the depth of this team improve significantly if we can’t get a star player in the next year and a half.

This. Plus Marty has that kiddish face that the media just can't stay mad at.
I can’t get mad at Marty. He went straight from peewee to coaching the freaking Montreal Canadiens. That’s absolutely bonkers. The players knew it too and there were like wtf is happening. Then he just stormed in the room and gave a speech that left everyone stunned. Then went back to the media and said I got this, I’m a rookie and I’ll make mistakes but I know what I’m doing, it’s just earlier than I thought it would be.

He honest, players love him, he’s deliberate with his teaching, and he seems to have a really good influence on the players. But I’m concerned, and always have been, about how inexperienced his assistants are to help him navigate uncharted waters. I feel it’s especially showing in the defensive game, and it’s something that will need to be corrected soon.

MSLs MidFairfield Rangers team were / are not known for defensive structure, that’s part of the issue - also why Zegras (MSLs pupil) is having a tough go w Ana IMO

The concept Hughes & MSL are trying to implement is anti-structure which is part of the problem. That’s why I’m very curious how Hutson gets implemented into the 5-man unit..

Hutson is the ultimate science project

it's a high risk, high reward gambit...which I'm ok with but it doesn't leave room for error if they don't find all the right pieces

They were a bantam team but regardless . . . that's not exactly 100% accurate. My son's former team, who played often against Marty's team, was definitely taught some defensive structure, and system play, from the time they were pee wees. Marty's '08 MFF team just had some excellent offensive players and that was more of that team's focus.

FWIW my buddy watched two BU games and said Hutson reminds him the most of Marner. As for D? Yeah he'll need help but doesn't quit on a play, ever.
