GDT | Game 50 | @ Capitals | Tuesday, February 6 | 7:00PM EST

Kid always had a decent one-timer. Just can't score if no one (see Methason) passes him the puck. And his work on the snap/wrist shot showed on goal one. Loved this player since the start. What a monster forward he's shaping up to be.

i disagree somewhat...he was often (not lately) putting himself in a bad position to receive passes which resulted in weak shots or (just as often) him deferring the puck to someone else

A little from column A and little from column B. I'm talking about the set-play on the PP. He was wide open and in good position over and over again. Only to have the crackhead we have on D, Matheson, either shoot it into a shin pad, or pass it to another player with 1 or 2 guys on him.

The odd 19 year old mistake is forgivable, IMO. The constant dumb-f-ery from a vet like Methason, is not. At least in my view.

I know a lot of people doubted Slaf's IQ. I never even once thought it was a real problem. I think it wasn't accurate to mistake rookie mistakes and a 19 year old from Europe trying to adjust to the NHL and a smaller rink, to poor IQ. And the fact he probably wasn't used to getting hit being that he was such a beast for his age. I know it's not related to the shot, but just a general observation.

Hard to ask more from Matheson being our #1 guy and playing 25+ minutes per game.

I can excuse his countless brainfarts as he shouldn't be 25 minutes nor be anyone's #1. But I can't excuse his selfish plays while QB'ing the pp. I thought Guhle was much better than him when he ran it more last year.
