in return get a top 6 forward who eventually loses his ability to score

I really hope the Hawks don't get Bedard. This is exactly why I don't like the draft format. That team made it evident for the last couple of years what they were doing-tanking in the most obvious way. Meanwhile, teams like the Habs and Red Wings (at least this year) keep doing their best to win.

Hawks follow a dynasty with a full fledged tank.

I have no issues with tanking , Habs did it without the drama but more injuries

Dreaded middle is the worst place to be

Its a lottery that guarantees nothing , dump your slugs and move on

I don't so much have an issue with the tanking. Its understandable, maybe smart. Can't blame teams for going that route, to take advantage of a flawed draft system that rewards teams that are lousy by design in order to capitalize on the potential reward. And which will possibly reward a team that has won three Stanley Cups in recent history to boot.

Make the first round a random draw or some such variation.

One could argue that this makes the Hawks smart. The draft format is the same for everyone. Don't hate on them for being more committed to the tank than our team. Hate on our team for not tanking hard enough.

Yeah we’ve been having this discussion multiple times. I just want to remove any incentive for losing. All teams that don’t make the playoffs are randomized equally. Making the playoffs is always the goal so I don’t see teams missing the playoffs on purpose. They might not try hard if they’re just not good but finishing 20th or 32nd would make no difference.

Some teams simply stink or need a rebuild

Give first overall to the team that is on the cusp of making it. Do the best of the worst. Also make like football and relegate bad teams to the AHL and send up teams that make the leap. Fucking Phoenix should be an ECHL team by meow.
