GDT | Game 6 | @ New York Islamders | Saturday, October 19th | 7:00 PM EST

Our d zone system seems to assume we can consistently kill plays early and launch immediate counter attacks

Until you show an opponent that you can be dangerous they won't respect you and will take chances against you that they would never do to a better opponent.

When the Habs are killing a penalty, they are passive. They hang back, not wanting to let anyone slip past them and, as a result, the other team's powerplay has time and space to check options and make plays. But when the Habs are on the powerplay (at least until Hutson showed up) the defending team doesn't bother allowing them time or space because they're not worried about the consequences of over committing. So they rush toward the guy at the point, for instance, not allowing him the time or space to survey the scene or to make a pass without being rushed. I constantly see our puck carriers being swarmed by 2 or 3 opponents, confident that our guy will not be able to take advantage and dish the puck to a wide open teammate.

And for the most part, they're right. Most of the time, our player coughs up the puck rather than make a deft pass to an open man. And on the rare occasions when they do, the open man will be someone like Anderson who will just fire it into the goalies chest. The Habs pose so little risk to their opponents, aside from maybe 3 players, that it makes taking risks against them worth it.

Years of losing and long term injuries have gotten to them, they figurw we won't make the post season again, hard to be motivated to play 82 exhibition games year after year. We are now Buffalo and Ottawa

Not even close both teams have their core in place and stopped gutting for years

Habs are still on second base of seeing who fits the puzzle

Sal, you are a beacon of positivity surrounded by Wehavian negativity
It neither positivity or negativity… 6GP into a season is a bit early to write an obituary… not as if they’ve dug a huge hole w an 0-5 record like the Preds.

Can we at least wait till US Thanksgiving before formulating an end of season summary?

There are 2Dman over the age of 24 in the regular lineup, the 1st line are all at a PPG pace, 3rd line has been better than the opposition in every game w Gallagher & Anderson showing consistent positive play - the latter of whom is also back doing what he did well w CBJ.. on the PK

It’s going to take Dach 20-30GP to get over the mental hurdle associated w coming back from major surgery that cost him an entire season

Yes the Dzone gaffes at 5-on-5 have been glaring and analytics spotlights it, but it’s early in the season and Habs are in the thick of things… afterall most here predicted a bottom 5-10 finish.

No?
