As great as this feels today, I just want to point out that ostensibly nothing has changed…we’ve been just as good as Tampa for the last few seasons now.
Losing to Tampa last year by a coin flip, was a superior accomplishment than the majority of teams who made the second round last year, and probably two that made the semifinals.….so caring that we ‘lost in the first’ was always kinda smooth brain emotion thinking. (Imo)
We were better than Montreal the year prior to that, and they went on to smoke the Jets, who we likely would have done the same to….(Montreal did show incredible heart to not cave down 3-1, and their constant high effort all series is what put them in a position to win the kind of game winning bounces we had this year versus Tampa. They both earned their victory, and did so as the lesser team)
I believe we were as good as or better than Boston in 19’ as well….and they went to the finals.
Playing generational teams to 51-49 series, is a greater accomplishment than making the second or third round by beating lower level squads…..was never that we “couldn’t get out of the first round” and was always “we can’t get out of playing Cup favourites in the first round.” 4 out of the last 6 seasons.
Which is all just to say….we are awesome, we’ve always been awesome, and we’re gonna continue to be awesome.

Well now that we have the benefit of 20/20 hindsight the Montreal cup run was all will for Price and Weber. Internally they knew that was the last ride for them and everyone busted their humps. Perry ended up signing because of what MB told him after Toronto said no, that they were loading up. Staal the same. Everyone was trying to get Weber and Price the cup, aside from themselves that is.

I get freaked out when I think about how old I thought the Beatles and Pink Floyd were when I was a teenager in the late 80s and early 90s. They were putting out those classics like 20 years before that. That's like Cry Me a River, In Da Club and Lose Yourself in relation to today.
