GDT | Game 81 | @ Red Wings | Monday, April 15 | 7:00PM EST

So, uh, assuming this team wants to make the playoff next year, uh...

Anybody ready to have a serious conversation about Montembault yet?
Let Primo/Monty duke it out if they can make it work before Fowler is ready

Goaltending is the least of our problems

You have a #1 center, who I'd assume is going to play with one (if not both) of the best wingers on this team, and you think he's going to get less focus on his line...?
That's right, because Celebrini will be the number 1 center next season. 😁

What they do this summer will tell you precisely where they think we're at. If they think we're close, I could see Gallagher or Anderson being bought out & trying to sign a UFA. Wouldn't exclude them trading the Winnipeg 1st for an established NHLer for immediate help. Or, plot twist, giving San Jose the Winnipeg 1st so that they can take on Anderson's contract.
As long as Hugo doesnt capitulate and start patching to nowhere , team is on track to improvement

And you bitched on everyone of those games.
I didn't bitch about the 2 games against Edmonton that went to overtime. They played well in both those games. The Tampa game in November was an abortion and the Calgary game was underwhelming. But none of them kept me up at night.

Scoring is up and Suzuki still didn't get to 80 points.

Ideally he is the number 2 C. Smells like saku and Pleks as the 1C. It isn't enough.

If we had 2 Suzuki level guys I could live with that. Need a homerun in this draft.

Homerun this draft and at least a triple from Dach. Otherwise just floating around

Also Suzuki is better than Saku and Plekanec, both fine players, but Nick is just straight up better.
I'd agree but it isn't significantly better than peak Pleks.

Point being they are not those elite centre guys but had to be counted on to do that if Habs were going to do anything.

I think Suzuki is significantly better than peak Plek, but the core point remains.

We needed a homerun guy back then too.

Claude Giroux over David Fischer in 2006 would have done a lot…… including not trading McDo for a “first line” centre

Out of curiosity by what measure?

Just a quick look shows Pleks was 26th in league scoring at his peak. Suzuki is currently 33rd. Pleks had less PP points than Suzuki.
So offensively they are similar. Maybe even an edge to Pleks.

Both good at defense imo but more subjective.

That said I think Suzuki does improve a bit more on his "career year"

A lot of it is subjective, I like Suzuki's game a lot more, he's a gamer, more drive, more creative. About equally defensively, and I actually liked Plekanec quite a bit.

But Plek was our leading scorer twice, the first time at 26. Suzuki has been our leading scorer 3 years in a row now and he's just 24.
