GDT NOV 24: TOR @ CAR, 7:30 TSN

zeke

Well-known member
Another solid possession team with enough firepower to catch us out if we don't show up from the start.

Legend:

Letter Grades = Quality of Competition measured by opponents' time on ice, Converted into Letter Grades for simplicity
p60 = points per 60 minutes
CF% = Corsi For Percentage (i.e. shot attempts for percentage)
xGF% = Expected Goals For Percentage (i.e. shot attempt percentage adjusted for shot quality) - this stat is already adjusted for zone deployment and game score
In Brackets = CF% and xGF% relative to team
dsv% = difference between save percentage and expected save percentage

IIRC Cam Ward likes to play the best hockey of his career against us. Don't have a great feeling about this one. Carolina is a team I still think is going to surprise many people this year.

The lineup changes have me pretty confident. We have 4 solid lines that can finish

As long as Freddy can continue his good run we got this

Projected lineup tonight:
Hyman-Matthews-Marner
JVR-Bozak-Nylander
Leo-Kadri-Soshnikov
Leivo-Marleau-Brown

Happy to see Martin get the pressbox, although I have been warming up to his game more this season than last.

Would like to see Leo bumped to the fourth line and Bozak fired into the sun but you can't have it all, eh.

This is what they call a sandwich game - we've got the Caps tomorrow night, who beat us in the playoff last season, and sometimes teams would put a lot of focus on the game tomorrow and let an easy opponent like the Canes take advantage of that tonight.

But the Leafs shouldn't have that mindset after losing 2 games to 2 very beatable teams - ARZ and FLA.

The Canes play a trap game so we need to be patient, and we can't afford another 'late start' again, but otherwise this is a team we can and should beat.

I think we should be pretty safe from that.

I don't think any real rivalry between either the teams of their fans has developed as a result of that playoff series. And the Caps are a very different team this year.

So, hopefully they'll be properly focused on tonight.

And hopefully they won't get outshot like, 10-0 to start the game again.

Most positive thing is - it is not ****ing SNet, ****ing torture to listen to those clowns

Paul Romanuk isn't completely terrible, though his complete inability to keep our players straight (he spent the whole Florida game thinking Brown was Nylander whenever he was on the ice) is baffling & irritating.

But the guys on the intermission panel, and Greg Millen? Good God, just so awful.

This might come down to which team had more players doing thanksgiving, and how much turkey...that and the start. As has been said, we need to start on time.

I'm pretty bad with numbers myself. I still think Marleau is Brown every single time. [emoji38]
Yeah, that ****ed with me all throughout training camp and the early portion of the season.

I've finally gotten those two straight, but I'm still confused whenever Kapanen's in the lineup wearing #24.

I don't know how you can ever confuse guys when they shoot from different sides.

Marleau is a lefty and Brown a righty. I could never confuse them.

Brown and Nylander might happen here and there, but they look so different on the ice (Nylander is slim and skates like the wind, while Brown is bulkier and has a heavier skating style) that even that would be a rarity.

Leafs once again not "starting on time".

At what point does the coaching staff start to catch the blame here?
