GDT (PRE #5): Sept 30 - Leafs vs Canadiens (7:00PM TSN4)

You'll have to pardon us. We're under the impression that Montreal has a lot of talented young players given their rebuild and all so we're just excited by the fact that our young prospects (of which we're constantly told we have none) looked so much better than yours last night.

See this right here, this is the prep. All the ingredients to the eat crow pie are getting thrown in, then the baking happens. That's the regular season, if you're good the actual bake isn't an issue but the final piece of the journey... How does the cake actually taste, that's the playoffs. All your ingredients come to palate. That's my favorite part, reading the entire season only to get to the end. The character development is sublime but not like the finish. It's the money shot where the enjoyment ultimately rises.

Feel free to move this to the food or movie thread. I pregamed heavily.

Not sure i ever remember four leafs kids impressing in camp like this all at once.

In a normal year we'd probably be pretty excited by the solid camp guys like Steeves or Kokkonen are having, but they're less than afterthoughts at the moment.

Minten might actually make the team. As a C.

Is it a cake or a pie?

We have different definitions of the word project.

A project is someone fairly obviously "toolsy" who often needs years to put it all together and their production at whatever age appropriate level will be underwhelming until that mythical day in the future when it all comes together. Good examples of "projects" are Tage Thompson (thoroughly underwhelming for years at the NCAA, AHL, and NHL levels before breaking out at 24), and Alex Tuch. Most projects aren't high draft picks though and most projects don't become elite NHL'ers.

Logan Cooley is just an elite prospect who has done elite prospect things at every stage of his development. Not all elite prospects turn into impact NHL players at 19-20 yrs old, but they all show dominance at whatever levels they were at prior to impacting the NHL.

But by all means, go ahead and play word games trying to make it appear that every high pick who doesn't immediately make the NHL and have an impact is a "project" if it makes you feel better about your pending flop.
