The Habs are not where they are without Dobeš, Hutson and Newhook (who many have lamented acquiring).
Newhook trade is looking good right now. Dach is looking better. If he can string together a few seasons healthy, he may indeed turn it around.
The defense bends like a bow but luckily doesn’t break often lately. Still needs a couple of better D on it. Smarter D. 8 has played well but his toolbox isn’t big. 72 and 47 are hammers, dumb hammers. 45 is smart but small. 48 is brilliant. 53 is smart enough. 21 is holy fuck what are you doing?!?

If we beat Sabres, Canes will be a good test regarding the center position.
They have Aho, Stankoven, Staal, Jankowski as their centers.
After Suzuki, not sure our centers come close to the others....
Avs trading for Kadri was probably the best move any team made. His contract will be tough to swallow in 2-3 years, but he gives them legit balance to face any team (Nathan, Nelson, Kadri).

I was not convinced regarding Newhook. He has changed my mind these playoffs.

So true....
Matheson on the 2nd pairing is amazing value for the Habs. And he's bought into his role, which sacrifices offense for defense. He'll be valuable in Marty's tool box to allow Hutson-Dobson to run the offense from the back end. Matheson-Reinbacher need to be the dmen that play heavy minutes against opposing top lines to shutdown games or PK

Newhook has the speed factor that you cannot teach......
He is more of a quantity over quality type player.....he will get 10 looks at a goal, and 1-2 will go in.....but that's because fans expect him to score every time he goes end to end with his typical rushes. Fans needs to temper their expectations.
Talented offensive players get 1-2 looks and it's in (Suzy, Cole, Slaf for example).
why is the next series always a test?

That’s some road to a potential 121 point team in the finals. If I had to guess that’s probably the highest number of points a team would’ve had to go through in one playoff year ever.

We're not playing, we can concentrate on Carolina. An opportunistic, high shooting percentage team, like the Habs, are the probably the only Eastern Conf. team that can beat shoot from everywhere Carolina.
