Habs News & Notes: 2013-14 Season

Briere won't sit unless he's injured. He might reduce their playing time, but Therrien will die with his vets.

Bournival and Weise are the likeliest to get the short end of the stick. Bournival cause he's a rookie and Weise to keep him fresh and hungry for the next game.

I'm not convinced of that. Therrien has not been afraid to sit his vets all year and he might want bigger 4th line if we face the Bruins.

Partially torn ligament???? Source?

Deduction - the fact he had an MRI leads me to believe it was a knee issue, if it was fully torn the org would likely have come out and said he's done & will require surgery, similar to Emelin's situtation last year.

There are a number of other things it could be, and not be a partially torn ligament.

Sprain.
Damaged Meniscus
etc....

A knee sprain is a stretching whic is a partial tear of the ligament, and meniscus damage most often occurs with ligament damage...

sometimes, but not always.

There are a number of other things as well (tendons, cartiledge, etc...)

Its a bit of a jump to conclusions to say it must be a partially torn ligament.

It's not a torn ligament, partially or otherwise.

I read somewhere that it was a sprain.

By definition, a knee sprain is an injury to a knee ligament. The sprain may vary in severity from a slight stretch to a complete tear of the ligament.

A mild, or grade 1, sprain simply stretches the ligament and causes pain and swelling. A moderate, or grade 2, sprain partially tears the ligament and is much more disabling. A severe, or grade 3, sprain is a complete rupture and often needs surgical repair.

I wouldn't have missed any games with a grade 1 and would not be coming back this season with a grade 3 so it must be a grade 2.

Thank you Waz - as I posted earlier Galchenyuk likely has a partial tear, they're waiting for the swelling to subside, which takes usually around 1-month. My guess, they'll pop a brace on his knee & he'll be ready to resume practice sometime next week-10 days.

I'll let our resident Doc Cheliosity correct the guesswork....

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character. James Bond made a career out of screwing supermodels.

What's Bourque doing differently?

There's no denying just how well Rene Bourque has been playing through the first 3 games of the playoffs. He's scoring more goals, and creating more scoring-chances. His numbers are up almost across all zones; including success-rates and events per-minute played.

Bourque's creating more scoring-chances at even-strength. He was directly involved in the creation of 0.133 scoring-chances per-minute played during the season. Through the first 3 games of the playoffs he has produced 0.307 scoring-chances per-minute.
