Habs News & Notes: Regular Season 2019-2020

The first line at practice this morning is: Lehky - Danault - Alzner.

Should try that one in the game haha.
 
I have to give credit to the Habs scouting staff for finding so many one dimensional Europeans that skate well but couldn't put a puck into a soccer net from six inches in front. I can't wait for the outrage from the fancy stats crowd when Lehkonnen is traded this summer. It will be shades of the near riots that resulted when Lars Eller left.
 
Also, it's amazing how many Habs fans on Twitter are content with the job Molson and Bergevin have done. I got called angry for suggestion that the Habs are a mediocre team with a mediocre owner and a mediocre GM. I don't see where stating an opinion based on results from the past five seasons qualifies as "angry". Two playoff wins in five seasons. Yeah Habs Twitter and Bergevin loyalists that's one outstanding record. Move aside Sam Pollock, Marc Bergevin is heading into history as the greatest GM in hockey history.

As one of the old guys here, I had the privilege of watching him in his prime on TV. He could do it all, really. Play two ways, And despite his size, he went to the tough areas, was fearless really. Not a big goal scorer in the later half of his career, but probably could have been that too had it been his role. He was a big game player. My favourite memory was probably the third period of game 7 in 1970-71, my favourite Cup. He basically won the Cup in that period himself. Relentless, all the time. And there really was no drop off in his game-he was good the day he retired. He was a common denominator in several eras of great Hab teams-the 50s five cup outfit, the underated 60s teams that won 4 Cups in 5 years, and the two Cups in 71 and 73, which were pure team efforts and were a blend of the sixties teams and what as to come later in the decade......

I guess all the greats are gone from that 55-60 run of teams. (Richards,Geoffrion,Moore,Beliveau,Plante, Harvey). A few support guys left.

Yep that was my earliest memories of the greatness of the Canadiens hockey club. The legendary series against the Bruins and the improbable hero Richard in game 7. It makes you realize how privileged we are to be Canadiens fans, I know thats hard these days with the endless mediocrity we must endure with the current regime.
 
Don't call the current team mediocre on Twitter unless you want to be mocked by idiots that think Bergevin is a great GM.
 
I seriously doubt anyone will break his record of 11 cups.

Had the pleasure of meeting him several times throughout my life. He was always a gentleman.

RIP Pocket Rocket.
 
It would have to be a journeyman-type of player that is always on one or two year deals that gets traded a lot at the deadline/in the off season.

For a star player, though? Impossible.

Chris Kunitz was the active leader before retiring with 4 Cups... he kind of fits that description.

Yeah. his record is safe in a 31 team league.
