Seriously. When will we ever see the solution proposal? I find it interesting how no local journalist will ever point out the near 50-years of drafting & development futility, this did not start 8-years ago....

The Habs legend is based on Frank Selke Sr execution of rebuilding the farm (no Cups his first 6-years as Habs GM) handing off a stocked cupboard to Pollock which resulted in 16-Cups over 26-years.

To be fair, it's never really been as bad as the current stretch since 2008.

We always struggled in the first round but we were able to find players in later rounds.

It’s always been this bad for the last 40-years, Habs fluked off two Cups without having to face the toughest competition on the road to the finals otherwise they’d have been swept in 4 by Oilers who made a mockery of them during the 85-86 regular season and no way Habs beat Bruins in 93 let alone Pens.

Other than Richer, Ribeiro, Ryder & Plekanec Habs never really found any top end forwards even after 1st round who performed with the team on a consistent basis - even Richer had only 2-good years.

Before anyone goes there, Lemieux couldn’t crack 62-points in the peak of the high flying 80s as a Habs...

This org has been offensively inept for a very long time, these journalists are buffoons who should do their homework..

I maintain my point, it always been bad but never AS bad.

2008-present : 7 NHLers total (currently playing and not a bubble player, so no Evans, Hudon, Vedjemo): Gallagher, Beaulieu, Galchenyuk, Lehkonen, De La Rose, Sergachev, Mete.

Using a low bar of 300+ NHL games

2003-2007 : 17 NHLers
1996-2002 (Houle-Savard) : 12 NHLers
1983-1995 (Serge): 31 NHLers
1979-1982 (Grundman) : 13 NHLers

The lowest mark was the Houle/Savard period with 1.7 NHLer per draft, otherwise we were averaging 2.71 NHLer per draft.

Since 2008 we don't even average 1 player per draft. In an history of futility, it is by far the worse it has ever been.
 
Or just give both teams a point, and not play.

Seriously, isn't it just a matter of time before an NBA or NHL player/team gets struck by coronavirus. Every team seems to get the regular flu once a year....why would this one be different in that regard?

Then what? Cancel a ton of actual games.

Just cancel the season...both safer for players and fans.

It's not like they haven't cancelled seasons due to labor disputes
 
Some one is taking notes. Coronavirus crisis will be provided as one of the main reasons for the teams poor performance this year (though no one actually had the virus) and that it could not have been foreseen. That, and the fact it is hard to draft good players.....etc.
 
There is a potential silver lining with the announced suspension of the season....NHL after all is a gate receipt business.

With lack of revenue generation for potentially 12%-15% of the season (with this announcement), any cap increase for next season will be negated. Question now becomes how many of the teeter tottering franchises can suck up potential revenue losses and could the Habs finally take advantage of a financially vulnerable team?

The UFA market will be interesting . We could pick up some short term scrap for assets

I don't think anyone is financially vulnerable , Bettman wont let it happen

3-6 teams would be gone without intervention and behind the scenes financial engineering
