Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

The Bergevin style, former NHL/AHL tweener, who thinks that dropping f-bombs is a fit substitute for analytics doesn't tend to get hired anymore.

For all the whining in the francophone media about the dearth of French speaking coaches and the "need" for the Habs to hire whichever talking head from a panel show happens to be available, you'd think that someone or some organization (like the Habs) would invest in a proper coaching academy run by people who know what they're doing. It would also help if the Q would adopt an approach to the game modeled more on what the OHL does, and run their league as a place that develops NHL-ready players as opposed to creating "vedettes" who's talent gets wasted in the pursuit of selling tickets to junior hockey games.

That requires $$$$, Q owners don’t have the deep pockets to compete w the Dale Hunter types

There’s a reason the US development system has pole vaulted to be on the verge of surpassing OHL as the best NHL top end feeder system…. lot$ of $$$$ has been poured into the system. Coaches, trainers, data analysts, almost all poached from CHL (including Q) by offering top $

It also doesn't help when so many teams in the Q (mostly the ones based in towns within Quebec) play in small, old barns that don't generate revenue. The Remparts play in the 18,000 seat, state-of-the-art Videotron Centre, which is overkill, but many of the rest play in antiquated facilities.

Chicoutimi's arena was built in 1949. capacity 4,700
Val D'Or's arena was also built in 1949. Capacity 3,500
Rouyn-Noranda's arena was built in 1951 and seats only 2,150 !!
Drummondville's arena was built in 1963. Capacity 4,000
Sherbrooke's arena was built in 1965 (although renovated in 2012) Capacity 3,600
Baie Comeau's arena was built in 1970. Capacity 3,000
Victoriaville's arena was built in 1980. Capacity 3,400

That's 7 teams in a league of 18 which are playing in glorified barns with practically zero revenue streams.

Lol

If the guy makes the nhl it will be a minor miracle.

A college senior not even being a PPG is an extreme longshot.
Meh, if you are willing to crash and bang more than the other guy, you got a shot. Some things never change in the NHL.
