Yep, he'd be on with Dick Irvin between periods. In Toronto they had ex-Leaf Bib Goldham.

When I met Dickie Moore years ago, he told me that Marshall and Phil Goyette, his two best friends on the club, were traded to the Rangers to punish him for not agreeing to be traded to the Leafs. Moore had several business ventures going on in Montreal and didn't want to move. Habs management, of course, didn't like players to have side hustles because then they would have enough money to tell management to get fucked, which is precisely what Moore did. In fact, the Habs only wanted to trade him to punish him, not because there was anyone on the Leafs roster they coveted. So when he refused they traded away his buddies instead to send a message.

I don't recall seeing Marshall play with the Habs, though I had watched them a little the last year he was there. I clearly recall the trade, and it was considered surprising at the time. But it worked out well for both teams. Marshall had a chance to play a more offensive role with the Rangers and I remember he was just an excellent two way player. And he remained excellent for many, many years as the Rangers gradually rose in the ranks.

We are chained to our past, like it or not. If you wish to be unburdened by history and be truly "middle class", may I suggest becoming a fan of, say, the Seattle Kraken. No inconvenient history or tradition to live up to, no standards to meet. The bar is nice and low. And they play most of their games in the Pacific time zone so you won't need to set your PVR. Enjoy the institutionalized mediocrity of the 21st Century NHL.
 
You hold the team to unrealistic expectations that can no longer be met. We haven't met them in almost 50 yrs. The last time we were dominant you hadn't been inside a woman other than growing inside your mom. As Don Henley sang, those days are gone forever, you should just let them go.

The Rangers went 54 yrs and now are at 30, Leafs 56 and counting, Bruins went 39 yrs, Red Wings 42, Oilers are at 35, Islanders 41 amd counting, Flyers 39 and counting.

We are no different from them.

Your expectations no longer match reality.

Expectations have nothing to do with current reality. The expectations are what they are. The standards don't change. You strive for perfection, knowing that achieving perfection is impossible. But in the pursuit of perfection you will catch up to excellence.

You don't even want them to try anymore. You just want your empty calories of 8th place finishes. I say "forget the sizzle, give me some damn steak!"

standards do change, the Republicans had Eisenhower, Reagan and Nixon as President and now they will have Don. The Democrats ran Roosevelt, Kennedy, Clinton and even Obama before, now they have Bidunce and the Cackling Hyena Harris.

Our standard used to be championship, that is no longer a valid standard as it is mostly unattainable.
 
MY standards don't change. I don't deal in "hope", I have only expectations which must be met or exceeded. Anything less is a straight up waste of my time. I'd rather they tank that tilt at the rainbow of a wildcard spot.
