Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

Based solely on xGF, Suzuki and Dach play better together (400+ minutes in 2022-23, 100+ minutes this season) than apart.

Demidov - xxx - Slaf
Cole - Suzuki - Dach
Pre-draft, some of the journalists were saying people in Habs management think Demidov could play center

Next five games

Gotta beat Buffalo Monday

Then lose in Edmonton as northern Alberta fans need to suffer

Win in Calgary Vancouver and Seattle (might still go to that game too)

Surprised that Beliveau didn't do it but guess not, some injuries in between.
Seasons were only about 50-60 games long back then.

- Toe Blake played in an era when 20 goals in a season was a huge deal.
- Bill Durnan was a goalie.
- Butch Bouchard was a stay at home defenseman.
- The Rocket was only Captain for the last 5 years of his career, and he was often injured. He never even won a scoring championship.
- Henri Richard was past his prime when he took over from Beliveau.
- Cournoyer was past his prime and often injured.
- Savard was a defenseman and only Captain for 2 seasons.
- Gainey was a grinder.
- Carbo was a grinder.
- Koivu played in the dead puck era.
- Gionta was past his prime.
- Pacioretty had two 60 point seasons but tailed off in year 3 due to injuries.
- Weber was a defenseman.

Beliveau was captain when seasons were 70 games. He scored 65+ points 7 seasons out of his 11 as captain. Just never 3 in a row.

I believe that we are overthinking this second line center spot. Don’t have to give up any of the prize prospects to get one. All you gotta do is find a stopgap until one of those guys is ready. There is enough of them plus more coming this draft probably that we can hedge our bats on one of them, making it through in the next 2 to 3 years.
